have you regrets on repotting?

I am setting up my new kit and with 45 straight colours I am trying to decide if I should repot into a better square compartment box so I can see and access all colours. Or the other option is to have 2 trays stacked but no repotting. Both will cost about the same to do but its around $140nz so not a decision to take lightly, esp carving up all my paints!!!

I have all my solid colors in one-stroke size pots and NO, I do not regret repotting them at all. I also repotted all my starblends and have zero regrets on that.

Yes, but only because I repotted in an artist's palate and dropped it so all of the larger sections smashed. The whole small section is fine, but now it looks horrible. I am in search of another container.

Dude vanessa1 I feel your pain. I've been agonizing about re-potting my paints myself as well to save space.

eviedejesus that idea is pretty cool using one stroke containers for your main colors! How do you find this method with sponge loading a single color? Or making your own blends on a sponge?

Some times I make my own 'rainbow base' on the sponge just by bending it and loading the middle and the edges to make something i don't have in cake form. How do you think your solid one stroke container method would work for this?

I repotted all of my colors into the smaller rounds from the 12pot TAG/Wolfe/DFx palettes - it saves so much room and I just top them off as needed (maybe every 7-10 gigs?). I keep full size Wolfe black, metallic white and matte white, and a full size paradise black and white. I save so much space this way and I've never regretted it.

TheGildedCat do you mean the 32 gram ones? or something smaller?

I haven’t started sponging yet, I only use brushes right now but if you have the TAGs that have two colors in the pot, each one is about the size of each of those two colors, so I can’t see why using a sponge would be a problem. But then again, I can’t say for sure. I guess try using a sponge on one of your one strokes (pretend it’s a solid color) and see how it feels.

Actually I guess my pots are actually slightly larger than the one stroke pots and a little taller, I can fit an entire pot of Paradise in it and it takes less than half of the space.

oh ok! Yeah eviedejesus I was wondering because the tag ones are pretty narrow. Still a good idea thought. I might have to investigate it.

Never regretted re-potting but I do have a bit of regret for my choice of pot. I use the jewelry trays and they are just a little too big. They take up too much space on a table. I had 4 of them - 1 with all my warm colors, 1 with all my cool colors, 1 w/all my one strokes and 1 w/all my rainbow cakes. I LOVED the way it looked and how I could see everything - but, it was too big in the long term.

I just bought the small plastic boxes that Evie recommended and I think I like that option... I can easily fit them in one of the laptop palette cases.

Anyway - I repot like crazy, all the time.

The lady that did my daughter's birthday used a beads box i guess..it has squares built in them...about 50 little boxes..but it looks so nasty and messy...I do not like how her paint box looks........it looks like she never cleaned it. I wish I had taken some pics of it.

I saw on youtube, someone repotted her paint on a square boxes..I'm gonna look for the link...

If you do not like how you repot them, just put them back. I have repoted at least 5 times now, and finally like my setup no regrets

These is the latest, I repotted all my paints in here, it is a plastic try if you want you can get the wood case I do LOVE this, it saves a lot of space and they have 3 different sizes, I use the big size for split cakes, the medium for the one stroke cakes  and little ones for single colors I don't use so often, this is not the picture of my kit, is a picture from face book.

I would say that no mater what you want to do with re-potting your paints just make sure that the new container is easy to wipe down and clean.

Sorry ladies, I thought I had posted my thanks for the encouragement but can't see my post... hopefully this one will make it all the way to the right spot!

I ended up going with these really lovely clear acrylic organisers that fit 12 colours. each compartment is a little smaller than two tag onestroke cakes side by side.  the best bit is they are designed to stack with one another.

But woe is me as now I am looking at all this blocky colour, when really onestrokes are so much more fun, and yet I am ill with a nasty chest infection so I can't do anything for a few days at the least. Yay for the forum and all its wisdom and lovelyness to keep me entertained  

Thank you to those who gave me the courage to carve up the lovely large batch of fresh meat... opps I meant paint. I was relatively painless, if not a bit messy. I do have one regret and thats not working out earlier that if I cut a certain way I can just puzzle a layer of paint in vs smooshing the whole pot in.

I think personally, one of my regrets on repotting anything would be that my OCD couldn't handle the aftermath of an imperfect job... although when I look at pics of split cakes they're never perfectly straight and that would drive me crazy as well, lol...

I got a Snazzaro "Ultimate Party Pack" with 2ml black, 2ml white, eight 1ml colors and two 1ml sparkle colors (along with some other things) that I was thinking of making into a couple small one-strokes as I have no other use for the kit (got it for $5 from Michaels because the package was ripped - regular $35)

I used to joke that i had OCD about my art, until i met some one with real OCD that gave me a better idea of what it's like to actually have it. I don't joke about it as much any more because i know the little quirks i have are not real clinically diagnosed OCD.

Though i have been told by friends i have 'OCD' when it comes to keeping my cases clean lol, I could never imagine being a face painter if I had real OCD. Because nothing really is ever perfect with face painting (not really), and you have to learn to go with the flow, paint fast and be more or less happy with the result. I would think a person with real OCD would break down at all the little things during a painting that you have to 'fix' or work with somehow.

I'm glad i met that person who had real OCD, as it made me more appreciative for not actually having it.

Talk about OCD! I was at a birthday party yesterday! and the guy was REALLY DIRTY!!! I told my daughter not to get any paint on her..coz his paint was DIRTY! I MEAN DIRTY!! yuck! I doubt he ever wash anything in his box!

I don't think it counts as OCD when it comes to cleanliness. That's just being reasonable lol.

I've looked at quite a few setups people have and some have some nasty looking paints displayed... I think part of being a professional is having a clean looking setup (not that you'd expect someone who's been painting for a couple hours to keep everything neat and tidy) but if you just setup and your paints look gross... No... Just no... At lesat if things look nice you can expect that the painter cares about cleanliness.

Oh totally! I have seen this too many times. I've actually started a collection of nasty setup pictures I have taken, or have found online. Thinking about adding them to my blog.

Lol!  Ok, now you have to include more cringe inducing pictures of nasty setups on your blog... 3 isn't enough, haha.  I also like that you specifically noted a number of issues on one of the examples.

You certainly have a respectable setup - I like that you use paper towel and soap/water too.

One thing you could comment about is people who paint lips using paint brushes... I just can't do it (even if using alcohol)... I typically don't paint lips anyhoo but I recently started doing a few but I bought a pack of disposable pointy-firm-q-tip like applicators for that.

I also have to ask about your dyed black sponges... I like that.  What product did you dye them with?
