what a great job you've done,  I've got the idea in the back of my mind -maybe after more practice and some more gigs. Until then, I'll be on the look out for a decently priced case - thanks to your inspiration!  Smile)

One question,  where did you get the glitter set up?  Is it a kit you purchased?  Or containers you found and filled?

Thanks for always letting us take a peek!   Smile)

I bought the 6-cup containers from either Jestpaint or here at the Forum shop. I made the little tray from a piece of cardboard and some foam Smile

Oh cool - yeah, i found them on jestpaint, thanx!.
So one last question ..wink.. what type of sushi rolls did you create? I've seen a cool peacock one and purple jewel one, too... just wondering if you use them often and if so, for what designs.

I made 5 sushi rolls (just based on what I had to slice and dice laying around) - a green scaley one, a peacock one, a purple/pink princess one, a rainbow one, and a brown tone one. I use them for dragon scales, variations on butterfly wings, feather work, but I don't use them a lot, but when I do it's nice to have them.

The majority of my cakes are splits and one-strokes. I keep 5 solids in my case: yellow, red, pink, black and white. I use the black and white for line work, and the other three for large coverage bases - for everything else I use the splits and one-strokes. I started with a solid palette, but no longer find much use for it, aside from the solids listed. If I want to do a one-color design, I use splits of that one color (there's plenty to choose from) Smile

so it's okay to use brush at the split cakes...I just wonder coz what if it's not even (the height) and if that would affect the painting you're doing ^^...I'm a super newb here hahahah

I primarily use brushes - very rarely do I break out sponges when I paint. Just preference. And the cakes wear fine, just have to get used to using colors within the cake. No worries on questions, I love 'em Smile

Is the foam that most of your cakes are resting in, from the actual gun case? Or is it from you laptop cases?

From the laptop cases - the foam that came with the case is the black eggcrate foam used as a divider between the paints and the lid when packed.

I see. It looks super neat, which I love, but is also my biggest worry about attempting it. I'm a bit OCD about perfection Neutral.

How does the case stand against the beatings from traveling and transport?

It is super tidy, and easy to keep that way if you're OCD about such things (which I am)... Smile as far as longevity: I baby mine. I avoid carrying from the handle, roll on a cart or trolley,to save handle/hinge/lock wear and tear. That said, it has happily bounced with me from fair to gig to festival to party and so far seems to be pretty solid. I am going to start a mid-size case build with a DJ Hero case... starting with the same kind of lid hinges as on my big case (no lid slamdown... best. thing. ever.)

Your set up is truly amazing. I have gun case envy! I almost bought one on Amazon, but then I started reading posts about the Fatmax and the Plano and Stalwart rolling tool boxes. I'm not sure what I'm going to get yet, but I keep coming back to oogle your set up!

This is so inspirational! I just made a tiny version with just paint out of an old poker chip briefcase. My question is what kids of collapsible bowls do you use because I would love to find them. Thanks so much!!

Oh ok that makes sense. Ha OCD can be such a hassle at times, but I treasure the moments when it's actually useful. Wink
I was asking about longevity because I was debating about saving for a Pelican case. I learned here and just confirmed with the company that their cases have a lifetime warranty whether you buy it from the store or a garage sale. As long as it is legitimate and they can identify it, you're set. No paper work necessary. However, right before I began typing this response I have come across an aluminum case like yours that is being sold for $20...I'm sold! cheers haha.
I still may save for Pelican, but this is too good an offer to pass, right?!

FacePaintingByTanya, I'm getting ready to order a gun case, but wanted to know if you think I can add legs to the bottom of it.  I'm pretty handy with a drill, so I'm not afraid to alter the case that way.  I saw some adjustable folding legs on Amazon but I'm not sure they will hold the weight of the case with the lid open--I don't want it to tip backwards.  Do you think the supplies in the bottom half of your case are heavy enough to keep it from tipping over when you have the lid open?

Here are the legs:  http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002N5YF5Q/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1QEAZG5M11U9U&coliid=IEH87H0ZM63D

I'm also on the hunt for wheels and a telescoping or other type of sturdy handle for the end so I can wheel the case around without the need for a dolly

Thoughts?

I saw one of our Australian members purchased a Saw Stand and mounted it under their kit. It has two wheels and it scissors open and upward. I would imagine that any set of legs that can haul and carry, and then hold a Table Saw would be quite sturdy. I think that the stand was a 'found' item from her husbands' tool shed. The price of them range here from $100 to $200.
If I was extremely wealthy, I would be tempted to purchase those wheels.
