@Mellygee: I've tried painting on myself , but I find it very difficult; I do have a good mirror, so maybe I should give it another go :S
here you can see how I struggle with the practice head: I wanted to experiment a bit with the Easter theme last night and the colours just don't blend the way i wanted them to turn out. Oh well, and I guess next time I doodle around, I should draw it on paper first ;)But at least the flowers turned out rather nicely, so the fact that the rest didn't really turn out like I planned  wasn't that much of a loss... Wink (as you can see, I started outlining in black and that was a complete flop  Rolling Eyes  At least I learned something last night  Embarassed

@Tobilou: those roses are inspiring, I've been doing roses like that but with white lining, your black is much more clear, I think I'll give that a go as well ^^

what??????????lol, that's exactly who I practice on!

lol, bribe them.

every Saturday morning, I say "who wants to go to chuck e cheese"
they say meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I say "ok, I have to paint your face first"

they say "nooooooooooooooooo, I don't wanna get painted!"
so I say "fine, we're not going anywhere then".

about 10 minutes later, they come begging to get their faces painted.my 5 year old says "something small" I say "ok, but then we can only go outside to play, no chuck e cheese"

works like a charm every time.

I currently practice 2 or 3 hours a day, lots of line work on my arm etc... so even if I can bribe them to sit still... it's not the same amount of practice I can get while everyone is out of the house.

tobilou: Thanks ^^
nikkili26: Yes, I double dip them, it gives such a great effect!
My kids are hard to bribe for practice - my youngest one won't sit still (and she always, always wants to be the same pink princess); and my son who is 10 thinks he is too old for face painting. I keep showing him pics of dragons, and worms crawling through eye sockets,... but noooo. My husband sometimes lets me try something out, always ten minutes before he wants to shower, so I have to be quick and it doesn't last long Wink My arm is my best tool, and I'm growing used to the plastic head ^^

Haven't posted in here for a while, so thought I'd drop in!! Lots of wonderful work in here!!!

I loved your double dipped flowers Bountie... beautiful!!

Mellygee, your faces are fabulous!! Love the tiger mask! Good luck with your first gig!!!

Love the daisy chain Tobilou.. so simple and easy, but so pretty!!! Will have a go at that one for sure!! And the Saints crown looks great!!

Yes codegirl... roses are so tough... sometimes I do one and it looks wonderful, but the next time I try one, it looks so dismal!! I think a lot depends on having a lot of paint on the brush to get that gorgeous contrast on the petals...  Love your dragon and the flames!! They're another hard thing to master!

I have an owl themed birthday coming up and although I realise most of the children will only want butterflies or tigers, I've got some owls ready just in case!! I can't remember where I saw how to do these owls, (except for Katura's gorgeous one!) but thankyou to those who have generously posted them on the internet for us to get inspiration from!!!

Will have to sponge some nice metallic white around the eyes for the pink owl mask I think...

I've been playing around with lines, tribal stuff , a bit of a break from my usual flowery butterfly bonanza Wink

Ambercat: That little owl looks so cute, and I love the shading on the branches ^^

Codegirl:I've been trying those roses too, it would be so great if I can pull it off - need a bit more time though Wink

I actually got to practice on my son, which was great ^^(he wiggled around a lot, so the lines aren't as crisp as I wanted them to be )

This is the last one of tonight: I tried Rapunzel on my practice head (with my usual annoyance on the plastic / bad blending; those flowers just refused to look decent :p ). and of course, if I did it "for real" I'd add glitter and gems ^^

I can't see anything wrong with you roses codegirl. I like that they are not red as roses often are.

All off you do so wonderful things. It's a great job.  cheers cheers

I was playing around with the 'princess' today... usually I use the same one stroke colours for the whole base, and now I tried experimenting a bit... the teardrops in the middle completely flopped, I blame the head  Mad

Lovely, Forest-Fairy ^^ Pruple and green is such a great colour combo! Very inspiring.

I'm not used yet to my plastic head as wel, the colours just don't blend and get very stripey.

So I practiced on my arm again, tonight, I was playing around with different kinds of flowers, things I saw on Pinterest...

SHOW and TELL #7 January - March 2014 - Page 6 Madeli10

The petals on the bottom flower I like best; the top one is too "child drawing - like", if you know what I mean... But it's 10pm, so time to call it a day ^^
