Painting self & skin care
I'm still rather new at this and find that my own face is the best way to try out ideas and techniques. I was painting on my legs for a while but wanted pictures on faces. I had never had my face painted, ever. Somehow I missed that childhood experience but i'm making up for now, so much that my face hurts! In between gigs I set everything up in my closet and after the kids and husband are asleep I hide in there and paint After a couple rounds of painting and wiping off I just feel raw. Is there anything, other than baby wipes, that's particulary soothing for in between or after painting? And how about barrier sprays? Do they really do anything to protect the skin? I was talked into a little bottle of the Mehron spray but I still get staining and see no difference.
Re: Painting self & skin care
Make up remover or baby oil both work pretty well. Baby oil, especially, is a more gentle on the skin.

I don't paint on myself, but I would be tempted to go with a vegetable oil over a petroleum based oil. Would/does that work pjhamel?

There was some product that Nick and Brian mention on there Faba classes that they use. The next chance I get to go on I will check it out and post on here.

Re: Painting self & skin care
I'm using baby shampoo and water to remove, just using my hands, being careful not to rub too hard. Then I pat it dry with a soft towel and moisturize. I wait until my face has "calmed down" before I paint something new on it (about 10-15 minutes). I can go on for very long like this.
I used to use wipes, but found them to "wear out" my skin faster. Baby wipes are made for wiping off food, and dirt etc, not for repeated rubbing to get make-up off. The baby shampoo removes the paint easier without having to rub so hard. Only down side with using the baby shampoo, is that I have to stand up and go to the bathroom to take it off.

I have no idea honestly. Make up remover and baby oil are what I've used on my own (incredibly sensitive) skin in the past.anniel wrote:I don't paint on myself, but I would be tempted to go with a vegetable oil over a petroleum based oil. Would/does that work pjhamel?

That's for the suggestions. I'm defiantly quitting the baby wipes, those are far to hard on the face. I'm using coconut oil when I'm done each time but I think I might need something heavier like baby oil.
One great thing is no more dead skin! My face gets washed so much now I have no need to exfoliate!

I wipe off with baby wipes, then wash with soap and a washcloth. Moisturizer is good.

I do just wet wash cloth. I just started using TAG so it stains a bit then I'll use soap.....
If I do use a baby wipe, I rinse with water, wring it out, and then wipe.
Also if I'm practicing on myself, it's only linework or one stroke practice. I already know how to blend a base so it's less makeup to remove.

Watch Denise cold u tube video. Its super easy to get off the paint, , I use a gentle soap first and then apply a tiny bit of olive oil so counteract the drying out of the soap. Most importantly, do not rub hard when removing the paint

I wouldn't use baby wipes. If you are at home, just wash with a gentle face wash and then any color that's left wipe with a cotton ball and some eye make-up remover. Baby wipes will dry out your skin and if you are wiping the paint off, you can be pushing the paint into your pores even more. I hear that Aloette makes a facial cleanser that works super well on face paint because it is made to take off all of your makeup but gently. Since our face paints are actually cosmetics, that's what works.
