Any estheticians, makeup artists, skin care specialists here?
I am seriously considering getting licensed as a Skin care specialist, since I am intersted in working with more adults, and ultimately doing weddings and so on. I was a theatrical makeup artist for years 20 years ago, but back then, of you were "Only" doing theatre and wigs, no one really cared- but I do and things are different now.
So, seriously thinking about taking the course as a "Skin care specialist" which would be about 20 weeks and would make me legal to do nails, makeup, facials, skin care- I'm not interested in hair.
My question is... any of you who might already be in the business... How do you feel about that VS full on cosmetologist license and so on. I realize other states may have different distinctions and leves of training requirements.

Leaping, if you're on Facebook, contact Espi. She's super nice and would probably be able to answer your questions, if not direct you to someone who can.

She's also on the forum, but I don't know how often she checks in or reads threads.

When I went to cosmetology school you only had a cosmetology license for all hair, nails, and skin. Or just a Nail technicians license but that was in 1984 in Missouri. Didn't really learn to do wigs till I worked in a salon in downtown KCMO that some of the Drag Queens brought their wigs in to be done. Now my Daughter is looking at finances to go to cosmetology school too. Yes it's a good idea and I'm betting you'll breeze through the classes with what you know already. I haven't done one since school but you couldn't pay me enough to do another bikini wax!

Leaping,
It soooooooo depends on what state you are in. In IL, there is no official 'makeup artist license.' There is a license for nail tech. There is a license for becoming an esthetician and doing makeup, skin care, and waxing, and then there is a cosmetology license that allows you to do all of the above. It sounds like you are most interested in becoming a licensed esthetician. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk about specific schools (I'm debating heading back to class, and so I've been researching; I haven't taken the plunge yet.)
