Will you donate your supplies??
This made me laugh..thought i'd share. Had someone contact me today to do face painting at a school carnival/dance. Asked what my prices are. Replied and sent the email.
Got one back a couple minutes later. Would you be willing to donate all your supplies you have, so that one of our volunteers could use them to paint faces for free, so we don't have to pay anyone to do it??
Seriously!?

Re: Will you donate your supplies??
I hope you responded in such a way that deflated their big brass money knockers.
Re: Will you donate your supplies??
It goes great with Denise's avatar!--can you just cut and paste them both to reply?
Re: Will you donate your supplies??
Reply: no, I'm sorry... But you can buy all those supplies at facepaintforumshop.com.
And then add a list of all your supplies, so they fall backwards when they start doing the math

Answer , "SURE! My kit replacement costs for skin safe paint (cannot use them afterwards due to heath concerns and it negates my insurance) and not the store toxic 'face paints' that often leave sue-worthy rashes - is $1,300.00. And because you asked so nicely, I won't charge you additional labor for my time re-ordering! " Heck of a savings if they just hire you innit?? LOL
Re: Will you donate your supplies??
What? WHAT?
I mean... I CAN go to Mc Donalds and say: I know you're busy, but if you'd step aside a second, I'll make my own happy meal, for free! How nice is that of me!
Do I?

Re: Will you donate your supplies??
Too funny! Perhaps you could ask to borrow something expensive from the school (like their copier or laminator or snow plow, etc.) so you (or better yet your young kids) don't have to spend money (making copies, laminating your signs, plowing your driveway, etc.)...

Re: Will you donate your supplies??
I would ABSOLUTELY throw a request back at them, as Kris said above, for something important and expensive that they should loan you for no money, that will depreciate in value or even be unusable after you use it.
See what they say! Please?
This sort of disrespect and rudeness REALLY grates on my chest hair.

The nerve!! I can't believe people. You should totally respond with a list of needed supplies and forum shop link. I think that should answer their question.
Re: Will you donate your supplies??
Wow, they really don't have a clue what they are asking for, are they?

Re: Will you donate your supplies??
Kammy..you have chest hair!? Lmao. Oh even better..the people email today, and are like seriously trying to convince me to let them borrow my stuff. They said my price per hour, for a non-profit company was outrageous. Okay, so I normally charge (for festivals/carnivals) $100/hr, with a 2-hour minimum..then I lower it to $75/hr after that. Okay, so for non-profit, I do lower my cost. I charge $60/hr, again with a two hour minimum. And just like my normal cost, after the 2 hours are met, it's lowered to $30/hr. C'mon = I think that's a good deal = what's your thoughts??
Their answer: We were needing someone to charge us only like $10/hr. Hello, that's like minimum wage, and my supplies and paint cost more than just $20 for a two hour festival.
Wake up people!

Re: Will you donate your supplies??
You could propose something like this:
They pay your rate and you charge the people to paint their faces and the school could keep the money paid by people who got painted. That way they could still get your great quality but not have to eat your whole cost.

Re: Will you donate your supplies??
I actually suggested something similar to them. But they wanted me to actually deliver my paints, brushes, glitter, etc...leave them my name and number, and they'd call me when they want me to pick up the stuff! i'm like not just no....but HELL NO!!! Ugh! The audacity of some people!

Re: Will you donate your supplies??
Well if they contact you again, I think you should only offer your regular rates and no discounts. They missed their opportunity to get you for less and insulted you besides. Be sure to let them know that your kit is worth hundreds (or thousands) of dollars and untrained volunteers would just ruin it. If they want quality face painting they won't get it from volunteers anyway. They should just buy their volunteers a little snaz kit and let them have poor quality but at least safe face painting that won't bring in any money for their carnival anyway.

Re: Will you donate your supplies??
On Fesspenter's advice, I decided to embrace it. They're now in lush, long, waxed braids. Sometimes I wire them and make them into works of modern art, but I have to be careful with that in case they poke models when I'm body painting.Kris5115 wrote:Kammy - I thought you waxed away those hairs!!??
twobeesdesigns - well REALLY? Doesn't EVERYONE know that???? I live in Scotland. It's cold here. A lush, thick chest wig goes a good way to helping us live through the frigid Arctic winters.

Re: Will you donate your supplies??
Seriously?? They wanted to take your stuff AND have you do all the work? Um....twobeesdesigns wrote:I actually suggested something similar to them. You should give them a breakdown of your entire kit costs, and then point out that as it would invalidate your insurance for volunteers to use it, they'll have to fully insure your kit and their volunteers, and by the way, could they send a signed contract stating that they have full liability for any and all ruined, depreciated (which of course means ALL OF IT if they're untrained volunteers) or otherwise damaged property, and that they'll pay you 125% of any of those expenses to reimburse your kit PLUS the time it will take you to source and purchase replacements?
These people NEED to understand how much such things are worth, and that what they're asking for is financially devastating to you!
ARRRRRGH!!!!
Sorry, blood pressure on the rise here.
