Snaz Dotter Wand
I've been considering buying 1 or 2 Snaz dotter wands (one for white, one for black). But I was in Hobby Lobby in the painting isle and found something that looked similar. They were in packages of 4, with different sizes, and the cone shaped tip only had a little bit of give to it. They also had packages with chisled ends and rounded ends.
I spent a while studying what the tips were made of and how springy they were and estimating what the dots would look like, I'm sure security was watching the remainder of my shopping trip. I didn't buy them, but wanted to ask you all first, what is the Snaz wand like? Is it similar, or differenty-special?

Re: Snaz Dotter Wand
I think it is more a rubber like tip......... if I recall.
The Face Paint Forum Shop has them.

Don't bother. The Snaz one is exactly the same as "smudgers" sold in drug stores for smudging eyeliners... and you can find them for a dollar or so. I have the Snaz (free, I wouldn't pay for something like that ) and I have smudgers in my make-up kit - they are exactly the same.
The ones you found sound about the same - if they are cheap, go for it.

I bought some dotter wands (Snaz) and they really don't make nice dots as the center where there is more pressure leaves less paint on the face and tends to look more like a crater (I don't know.... maybe I'M doing something wrong) I found a brush works better.
Re: Snaz Dotter Wand
I have one of the Snaz dotter wands, and I also find that it makes a crater, if I don't use more water than normal. Then it is fine. It is good if you need to make multi coloured pearls (I used it in the under the sea challenge here). But I almost never need to make perfect circles anyway, so I don't use it often.
The cheap one are just as good.

I had wondered about the crater effect. But... I have trouble adding the little highlight accent swoops to my swoops. Bad hand-eye coordination I suppose. Do you think it might help to use one like a pencil? It's so frustrating to have my pretty swirls and teardrops ruined by blotchy accents.
Re: Snaz Dotter Wand
A lot of brushes can make fine round circles and the same with Detailz. What do you mean using it like a pencil?
Re: Snaz Dotter Wand
If you want something that makes great "pearls" use a dauber... in the stencilling section - small wooden dowels with a sponge on the tip - make's perfect "pearls". Load with white, and a small swipe of the shading colour on one edge and then press and twist a quarter turn... voila!
I do have photos - I will have to get them together in a SBS.
And for the small dots etc I just use a #2 round... or whatever is in my hand at the time.

Re: Snaz Dotter Wand
I have the round-end dotters and a cone-shaped one. I use the round for the decorative painting I do (because I can get a perfect circle, but can go back over the center with a brush--no time for that in face painting). The cone-shaped one works much better....especially if it is loaded just right. I forgot about those eyeliner smudgers! I'll be buying more at the drug store....thanks Shannon!!

Re: Snaz Dotter Wand
Shannon, I have those dowels-spongy things too. I found mine in a scrapbooking store.
What I was thinking with the "pencil" idea, but am not good at describing, is when you use a round brush to make a teardrop or swirl. I do fine with that part. Then I want to add an accent around the bottom edge in another color, and I screw up the design. So I thought the tip might be a means to put a delicate little accents ... I went searching through my pics to find an example, and I can't find one. Good or bad example.
I'm not too worried about it... I'll practice more and figure it out. Maybe try the other shapes they had too to get ideas.
