I just received my dotter wands and when I use them I get an uneven blotch instead of a nice dot. Any suggestions?

I rarely use my dotter..I like to you use other end of my paint brush..or get a really pointed brush and add enough water to my paint so it will saturate my brush..I had a hard time with my dotter

This is what Gary Cole from snazaroo says about the wand, "Load the wand and touch the skin and spin. The harder the pressure the
larger the dot".

I have something that is essentially the same thing - called a "Smudger" it is for make-up and you can buy them in any make-up section of various stores. Little bullet-shaped rubber nub on the end of a stick (BTW - much cheaper than the Snaz "Dotter")

Typically it is used for smudging eyeliner along the eyeline.

I tried it once to see what it would do for dots but found it a pain - it does not make what I consider good dots, and when I can make dots any size I want with a brush then why bother with it?

I found it made uneven blotches instead of nice opaque dots. Now, perhaps others can make it work, but I'm not into frustration, if it doesn't work I go back to what does.

I find it funny that there is a gidget or gadget for every stroke, style or design, when all you need is a brush. Smile

I find it annoying that all of those gidgets and gadgets double (or even triple in price once it becomes a "face painting tool"). It's like the scrapbooking industry all over again...$5 for a package of 10 colored paperclips, $8 for colored buttons?

Or "weddings"??!!!!!!!!!!

Let's think about sponges for example. $1 for a 2 inch circle of foam rubber??? When you can buy a large car wash sponge for $1-2 EACH and cut into approximately 50 pieces??? I've never paid for a "face painting sponge"... I've traded, won, been given various versions but never paid for them. I buy tack sponges, car wash sponges, dish washing sponges... they all have their uses and work perfectly well for face painting.

One of the most perfect dotter brushes I have found is the American Painter #5. I am still testing others, but this one will make any size dot. I also make what I call a dippy pot. Essentially a small glitter pot that I put DFX white into and make it a little thick. It is always ready for dotting and makes any size dot you want.

The brush can be purchased at Michael's for about $2.

If you want to make your own dippy pot and don't have the empty glitter container, PM me your address and I will send you one. I have loads of empty ones.

I love my Snazaroo dotter wand(s) and would be lost without them as they make the most perfect large or small dots. I usually use them with Wolfe black and white, and the way I keep my paints in my palette there is a well of wet paint to one side. I dip the dotter in the well and it soaks up the paint.

I have to try my dotter again, it never really worked for me. I use a round brush dipped in water, then I spin it in my paint and make my dots..It really works well..I think it's a #4 or #5

I got the same thing as Shannon,an eyeshadow smudger. It was exactly $1, from E.L.F. It works fine but I don't think it's an absolute necessity...

Metina, I'd like a glitter pot because I want a dippy pot. Can you hold one for me and slip it in my next order...

which, if I don't start getting the stuff I ordered soon, will be really soon.
I'm just going to keep buying from the shop until I get my UK packages in...that'l show 'em. Rolling Eyes

Must say I LOVE dotters; found them in beauty chemists here in Hk at a fraction of Snazaroo's costs.

Use them a lot as keep 3 or 4 handy ready dipped in certain colours and does give precise nice fat (or smaller depends on pressure) round dots more easily than with a brush. And stops me using the brush handle end which was my other trick - less mess as i work! Used to like Deatilz but fed up of refilling them with my own colours AND a lot of the wands go splayed very fast.

I just use my brushes for dots... light pressure= small dot; more pressure+wiggly motion= bigger dot. done and done.

I usually use my brush for dots, but I found something neat at a scrapbooking store (and easily replicatable!!!). I use it for slightly larger circles, like pearls. It's basicly small wooden dowell, about 2.5" long, with a bit of sponge glued to the end, so the larger the dowell, the larger the circle. I usually only use it for making pearls, like for an easy princess, but it makes it way simple and each pearl is the same size.

Yep thats the kind o thing I use the dotter for, as its v hard to get perfect matching larger dots with a brush. The advantage over the dotters to the sponge-stick is varying the pressure you can still get smaller perfect dots, not just 1 size...

The dots in your avi do look mighty good... but I've made the deal with myself to start making some money with what I have before I start buying more. I may make some dot makers, since they look so simple.

The gal I bought my DFX from sent me a sample thing... called it a dotter. It is also a wooden dowell but it has a large, almost floppy, circle sponge on it. About the size of a 50cent piece. Haven't figured out what to do with it yet.

I have the Style Stix Daubers Set of 4 ($6) and I love them, they especially come in handy on a wiggly (too young) kid. I always suggest to the parent a quick bug and they agree. I make ladybugs & catapillars pretty quick with the daubers. They make easy and fast eyes on elmo or cookie monster too! Which is a fav of the little ones too. Very Happy
I still use my brush for dots too but in some situations the daubers are great. Makes a good dragonfly body too.

I gave my dotter another chance..I too was using the the wooden sponge looking dowell for my dots as well as the back of my brush..But the trick with the dotter is that your paint needs to be extra wet and you can adjust the size of the dots by added pressure (for larger pearl size dots) or reducing it...it works. Makes perfect dots..If you want something larger, use the dowell.
