Re: LaFete in New Orleans
MeLisa- can't wait to meet you, either! I registered on the website yesterday, but haven't received payment instructions, either. Probably as it is gets closer, we'll get that. I would love to carpool with you! I could meet you in Slidell and take turns driving on into the city each day. I have a minivan, too My daughter is coming with me, but I just put her down as a guest for now- she hasn't made up her mind about doing the painting activities, but she'd like to watch. She's only 13 so she still has plenty of time to participate in the future
Re: LaFete in New Orleans
You need to mail or paypal your payment and information to Susan Pierce.

Re: LaFete in New Orleans
I can't seem to find a link for the 2010 event, can someone put a link up. My moms in Mobile so free room and board I might be able to do a daily visit.
Re: LaFete in New Orleans
Yay, it's a deal then! You had mentioned in an earlier post that your daughter was coming, sounds good to me! With us both having vans, we should be set! I'm gonna try to give you a call on Monday just to say Hi and chit chat a bit if that's ok?! Said I would be on here more and again been so busy, haven't done it. I volunteered at an alumni game at my son's school on Friday. Stayed busy the whole time, yay! But it was probably cuz I was so slow that I had a steady line, ha ha! REALLY need to work on my speed!! And then today my BFF's little boy had a birthday party. I was gonna paint him up but the party was at chucky cheese and the kids were far to occupied to slow down! So, here we are. Gonna try to figure out how to get pic on here from my phone. Wish me luck!!

Re: LaFete in New Orleans
Question, what should I bring? Camera with tons of memory/batteries & a notebook for notes. I haven't put together a kit yet cuz I wanted to wait till I get to see what's out there and see what other people use and like. But I have baught a wolf pallet and brushes/sponges. I guess other things like bobby pins and wipes. What else would be smart to bring? I really like to be prepared and it just seems like I'm going with nothing. Thanks peeps!!
MAN, I'm gettin so excited, I think I said that before, but oh my gosh!!!!!!!

Re: LaFete in New Orleans
Those planning to attend LaFete might want to visit the LaFete google groups site for news update, roommate requests, info, etc.
http://groups.google.com/group/lafete
I think I recall someone on here looking for a roommate, well someone on the other list is needing a roommate and already has a room with 2 double beds reserved, so you might give it a looksee

Re: LaFete in New Orleans
Yes, there will be a small amount of vendors there...the vendor space is very limited.
I will be there selling things from my site....I am taking pre-orders as much as possible as I will only be bringing a limited selection outside of pre-orders.
I do have new shimmer colors that I will be debuting, as well as the new line of henna paste and products .....this paste is out of this world awesome, I am so excited about adding it to my site.

Those going to LaFete.....don't forget to pack your messed up zombie clothes for Thursday Night's zombie crawl
Re: LaFete in New Orleans
Just got word from Pashur....he is having to cancel his appearance at LaFete.
Jennifer needs him at home, which I think is most understandable.
I just wanted to post it here because i know several of you said you are coming and you don't seem to be members of the LaFete chat group.

Re: LaFete in New Orleans
ummm - so what about the money I sent to pre-register for his exclusive class?
Re: LaFete in New Orleans
and have they lined anyone else up to take Pashur's place???
I'm really disappointed, but I hope I didn't pay a registration fee for nothing.
can you post the link to the forum you are speaking of??? I read the message board on the la Fete website - but doesn't say anything about this.

Re: LaFete in New Orleans
... okay sorry guys... freaked out tooo soon, just spoke to Bethany and all is well
Re: LaFete in New Orleans
Pashur's class was an "extra" class, not part of the basic lineup of events.
He will be issuing refunds to those who already paid for his class.

Re: LaFete in New Orleans
sorry for being a complete noob, this is my first convention, but is this how it was done in the past?
Are other conventions set-up the same way with an additional fee for some classes?
Honestly - When I registered, it was before I even knew that Pashur's class and Mark Reid's class were extra.
the website stats " Registration fee is $125 for any painting participants - which includes all activities and cost of meals that are provided by hosts. "
So I was really surprised when I found out it was extra.
I think it's still a pretty good deal, but I guess I'm kind of bitter that Pashur wont be there - was hoping to soak up some of his knowledge. (
And yep - called Bethanie and she said he was going to send a mass e-mail to all that registered and paid for his class tomorrow.
BTW - do you have the link to the LaFete forum you were talking about?
Can you PM it to me?

Re: LaFete in New Orleans
Curious to find out if there is a separate forum for LaFete. As far as I know it is just the website. Inquiring minds.....
Re: LaFete in New Orleans
No, LaFete is not organized like other conventions....we call it the anti-convention for that reason. Most conventions have extra classes that you pay for separate from the registration. Registrations usually include all classes in the convention lineup plus access to the vendor room and daily jams, etc. The extra classes are put on by individual instructors outside of the regular schedule lineup of classes and events. That is why you pay those artists directly. They are sometimes called pre-classes or post-classes because they are usually either the day before or the day after the convention.
The LaFete paid classes this year are called "early-bird" classes because they are being held in the morning during what is usually "free time" at LaFete. This allows people who want to take special classes the opportunity to take them, but those who may have already taken the class before get to enjoy free time and not have to pay extra for a class they don't want to take. Does that make sense.
In the way of the extra classes, LaFete is like other conventions. But, that is really all that is like a convention.
LaFete is much more of a 4 day face and body art jam and party session.
The registration includes tons of instruction, but it also includes meals for the 4 days. The registration costs are basically "at cost" for the organizers, and any money that is left over after paying for the convention space, the photographer, the food, and the models, gets donated to a children's charity. LaFete also tries to do a community event each year (we were rained out last year) where everyone who want to participate paints together (usually at the Audubon Zoo) and collects donations for their work. All of that money gets donated to a children's charity. I think last time it went to a local children's hospital.
It really is a friendly "family" atmosphere. That is why it is intentionally kept small.
Hope that helps. Mind you, I am not one of the hosts of LaFete, just one of the veteran attendees, and the honorary dessert provider.
BTW...this year we are having Red Velvet Cake, Southern Pecan Pie, Chocolate Chip pie, Mississippi Mud Meltdown cake, Amish Friendship Bread, and Cherry Mash candy (I JUST got done baking). I have also been told that there will be Bread Pudding and fudge also.
