So, who is going?? I've already decided that I would like to go again. Just gotta find a roomie and a way to wiggle out of a class or two at school(why is lafete always one week off from spring break??)

Is this a good event for newbies?

I went last year as a newbie and learned so much! I don't have any other convention to compare it to, but it's very laid-back. I did the all-day class with Mark Reid and really perfected my brush strokes, etc. And Ashley was such a help! She showed me something I had been doing wrong and I was able to correct some bad habits I had picked up- thanks, Ashley! I live close by so I didn't stay at the hotel, just drove in each day. The food is included and home-cooked by the organizers and everyone sits around for lunch and dinner and eat together and talk. I got to know some local painters really well- hey MeLisa!! I'm sooo glad I went. I didn't stay for the evening bodypainting sessions as I'm just not interested in that.

I sooooo very badly want to go. I had been planning on using my tax money to fund it, then the Hubs had to go and win a week vacay in one of those swank all-expense paid resorts in Puerto Villarta (now have to buy air fare and passports). Damn. But then, Yay too. Sigh.

So, I'll be saving my pennies and hoping against hope. Maybe take the bus.

Is there a lot of face painting or is it mostly body painting?

Hi Linda... the bodypainting was always at night... I didn't stay at the hotel so I didn't participate (not comfortable with bodypainting, especially because my 14-year-old will be with me). The face painting was during the day. On Sunday they usually go to Audubon Park Zoo and face paint for donations for the children's hospital (I think). I didn't get to do it last year but I'm planning on doing it this year... the video I saw from it looked like so much fun!

Does anyone know how quickly the rooms fill up? I'm wondering if I should go ahead and book now or if I can hold off till January.

I would love to go to this jam! Actually coming up with a cost and all in my head right now. I wouldn't mind coming for the weekend...guess my question is, would it be better for me to pay the $125 and maybe fly out Friday morning and join in when I get there, or should I just pay $40/day for Saturday and Sunday but still maybe fly out Friday and just wait to start on Saturday? Just looking for suggestions...

HI everyone....the 2011 La Fete is going to be an amazing experience for me! I am so excited, I got crazy reading the 2010 notes....SO what exactly is a zombie crawl?
And as we will be flying I dont want to check a bag adn am wanting to know what is ok to fly with in the cabin? I have a few rainbow cakes, and FX discs, maybe a brush or two....should I try to bring a pallete? Which vendors will be there selling face paints for me to get when I am there if wanted? I want to try some shimmer or metalic paint for bases for adult butterfly over one eye and princess crowns..

Just a reminder that January 15th is the last day for early bird registration.

I've got my registration in the mail and just finished booking a room. WOOHOO!!! We're planning to arrive Wednesday evening and will be coming home on Saturday. It's about a 6 hour drive for us, not too bad.

Susan has said that this will be her last year hosting it, but that Bethanie and Nicole are going to be taking it over for next year. I'm happy that the tradition will continue! I've not been in several years so I am excited to see how it's been developed.
