My crayon/sticks theory
I'm new to face painting in general and I have random items left over from Halloweens gone by like cream tubes character kits and of course the face paint crayons/sticks. I've been going through lots of tutorial videos and tips and tricks etc and I've formed a theory/idea. If I took some of my sticks and took all the papers and such off and put them together in a small container together, could they be used like a split cake?
I more or less came up with this idea because I've been drooling over all the split cakes and awesome colors I keep finding from all different sites and brands but at this time getting my own kit with even a few is out of the question financially. XP Just thought that if something like that would work even sort of it'd be a great way to practice while I try and save the money to get the good stuff.

You should save money. They just aren't the same. I got a few Wolfe sticks with a kit and they were bright and nice and creamy but the rainbow cakes are not the same and I do not think the sticks would transfer right from a sponge to the face. We all start small and add on. Take it a couple cakes at a time. The cream tubes an sticks are just not the same quality unfortunately. Too bad because I have some

Eva is right. I have some Wolfe crayons that came with some paint I bought on clearance. Nothing to do with them but save them for "helpers". Keep an eye on the swap shop part of the forum as well...somethimes you can get some good stuff from other painter's wanting to clean out extras from their kits.

Dear Zarlinia:
Great idea!
I suspect that the crayons have more wax than pigment in them, so when you go to paint, you will get streaky blobs. The pigment is not ameliorated enough throughout the medium, and there is no easy way to fix that streak problem.
It would be better to go with a small palette of Wolfe or Diamond F/X of the essential colors than try to buy everything all at once.
The Face Paint Forum Shop has competitive pricing, and the SERVICE is FAST. No, they do not pay me to say this stuff.
Keep an eye out for the Swap Shop on this Forum. martha is right about the Swap Shop.
Happy Painting!
