Re: Newbie Challenge #21--legal age!
Sorry I took so long.. had a busy week!
The ultimate party here in Holland we have every year is the carnival!
But that is just in the south of Holland where it is celebrated.
For this you can do most anything with facepaint
For instance this:
Or with international championschips or our Queensday (which will be Kingday from next year on) you can do something like this:

Okay.
First of all, I am super late, but I hope that is okay.
Secondly, I was going to do a face design, but I am running on zero sleep (Been up all night looking at back logged posts on here ), so, I will possibly post one later... after a cat nap! My line work would probably not pass a PUI test (Painting under influence), not to mention the bags under my eyes, haha.
I couldn't resist posting something, though. so, keeping to the partying at 21, here is a quick little tattoo I just did. (Now off to sleep )

I love that SmileLines and your screen name as well! We should all embrace our smile lines...since I started painting mine have definitely become more prominent. I look forward to learning from you, we all learn from each other here!
Re: Newbie Challenge #21--legal age!
Thanks Erica!
I really left the name up to my Facebook friends, haha!
I of course had the deciding vote...
Some of the other names that didn't make the cut:
Face Wars: Episode IV - A New Face
Face Wars: Episode III - Attack of the Face
F. Art- Face Art
Fix'er Face-Everything pretty butter face? We'll paint it for you!
In yo Face
Face Painting... It's kind of a thing.
Obviously my friends are all keepers. And yes, I did save the status just to go back and have a laugh. (working on my Smile Lines).
There were others, in case anyone needs help naming their business
Anyways... I can't wait to learn tips from people who have been there before!

Bella: I really love your colors and the blending at the bottom! Also, swirls are evil and I can't draw them worth a flip, so it is nice to see them on a design! Out of curiosity, do the yellow and green signify anything in particular to the carnival? Like a team or theme? I'm afraid I know next to nothing about Holland!
Erica: That isn't long at all! Looking at all your work I would have thought you have been painting for much longer!
Valerie: Thanks for the welcome! I am such a chatty Kathy and I am glad that I have people to be chatty with about face paints! Oddly, not many people like to talk about it... And thank you! I honestly wasn't sure if a martini is actually green or not, so I am glad no one has mentioned otherwise xD. I'm not a big drinker, but I do love those little olives!
Okay! A face mask like I promised!
I figured I would go with a regular "party" theme... Who knew balloons were such a pain to draw!
Sorry it is so late! I have been at a friend's house painting (walls) all day and this is the first moment to myself. I regret realizing I forgot to do the mask until after I got out of the shower. If I waited until tomorrow I would have been up all night thinking about it... Major insomnia since I've been preggers. So, lo and behold, here it is!
Also, this is my first time drawing gumballs... I mean balloons... Any advice on what to do for strings or how to make the balloons themselves look less like chewing gum would be appreciated!
And yay for my first ever improv design! I have yet to experiment on a totally made up mask so this is great for the creative juices! Can't wait for the next one! I can't believe I've never done this before!
Now to wash this stuff off and go to bed! Night all!

Well, indeed yellow and green but also red and blue and white are coulours that are typical for carnaval. Basically, each town/village has his own color combination. So in Drunen, where I live, the combo is yellow and blue. But I have always celebrated carnaval with my family when I was young. They play in a band, and live in Breda. The Colours of their band are, as you might guess now, yellow and green! We don't do much about carnaval these last years but it is still a tradition to go see them and their band in the big parade on Monday!
Did you know that the places have a different name during the carnaval days? So is Drunen named "Dwergoniƫ" and Breda is called "Kielegat". I don't know why that is.
Re: Newbie Challenge #21--legal age!
Brittany, that is a Very nice design!
As for suggestions, maybe if you put little wavy lines under the balloons as string...of course then you would have little black wigglers on your NOSE!
You are doing such a great job!
And congratulations on your future little one!

Re: Newbie Challenge #21--legal age!
fun guys!
There is NO TIME LIMIT on these--newbies just joining can start at the beginning or jump in where ever!
The carnival face is very colorful! I like the Queensday face - very easy and it works.
The drink and cute woman is wonderful! Very neat!
Balloon party face is really cool too!
Do you have a dauber? A sponge that is round? those would work pretty good, but balloons are kind of egg shaped aren't they?
Nice job!
Congrats on being Prego and WHY are you painting? stay away from those paint fumes!!

Re: Newbie Challenge #21--legal age!
Bella: I would be so confused if all the places changed names for carnival! I have enough trouble here in Texas when all the streets have at least different names as you drive down them, hah. Do you get a lot of tourists in the area during that time?
Valerie: Thanks Valerie! The baby is due in May, and I still feel so unprepared! I'm sure I will be posting in the off topic area for advice and maybe post a few maternity pics in April .
Maybe balloons should just not go on the forehead. They might be better on either side, and then just teardrops in the middle. Lines would make more sense, but I cannot use my #1 brush on myself! It is impossible to draw nice lines on my own face. I am impressed when other people can paint such detailed things on themselves!
Amy:Hehe!
I have gotten so much grief about painting, but my friend has completely taken on her new house as a construction zone (Walls are being torn down, textures removed from the wall, flooring torn out). She has no one to help her, so I don't mind painting just a little . I do wear a mask and only work in well ventilated areas!
I do not have a dauber, but that would probably help with the larger circles!

Re: Newbie Challenge #21--legal age!
Well I honestly have no idea if there are many tourists more because of this. It is a celebration that only lives in the southern part of Holland. At least it is a very cosy time of year.
Re: Newbie Challenge #21--legal age!
Hi Brittany, and welcome! I was thinking for the balloons, maybe a bit more oval shape would keep them from feeling "gumballish", and wiggly strings for sure!!
My daughters name is Brittany, by the way! (she's older than you, however)
Best of luck, and keep on painting!!
