Fairy Fly Kits

Hi all!

I've seen these "Fairy Fly Kits" around various places, with 3 little split cakes in each container - I hope you know the things I mean! Has anyone got them? What do you think of them, and are there pros or cons? I'd be especially grateful if someone has photos of designs that use them, so I can get an idea of what's possible. I don't have any and can't afford them right now, but I'm intrigued by them.

some color combos are AWESOME and some are just meh.
I love rose bud and duelling dragons, pocket pal is pretty neat and dazzle is growing on me. A lot of them have one neon strip in which I frankly find annoying but some people LOVE. They have lots of FAB in them so they smell like FAB paints (it smells like grandma soap).
I actually took out the black and white from duelling dragons and put a yellow, orange, red and black split in there and now I call it my uber duelling dragons.
The most annoying thing is that the larger cake is too small for a regular sponge, but on the upside it fits a 1.5 inch brush PERFECTLY.

Hi Kammy, these were some of the first supplies I bought. I have Dueling Dragons, Wildflower and Candyland and I love them all. I love that they're so easy to use and compact. The lids come off too, so you don't need to keep on opening and closing each side.
If you want them, get them I don't think you'll be disappointed

Thanks for everyone's input! I just came back to report that, following an unexpected cash treat I received, I ordered "Candyland" and "Rosebud" to play with. I wouldn't normally have done so as they seem pretty expensive for what they are, but they look so cool that I couldn't resist when I had money and an order to spend it on myself.

I would like to have some of them, but at this point it is too expensive for me now.

Bit confused, as I was just reading about ABCs. I thought the FairyFly kits were the same paints as the Arty Brush Cakes, but they're listed as being made from Wolfe and Kryolan paints rather than FAB. Are the FairyFly kits different altogether?

IMO, Fairy Fly kits are a huge waste of money.
All the people at silly farm do is cut up the paints and shove them in cheap bead containers.
Micheal's and a 40% coupon (for bead case) + TAG paint = MUCH Cheaper and more customizable.

I got the Wildflower FairyFly kit a month or so ago.
When I received it I was "Is this all it is?" I love the colors., but I felt really let down after all the money I paid for it.

I've never made my own splits. Being the newbie I am, I haven't gotten brave enough....plus I would think I need more paints before I got chopping up my main colors into splits (if that makes sense )
But, I really think the money would be better spent buying the colors you want then splitting them yourself.

This is a picture with my 1" brush beside it. For me there is just not much room to load the brush, especially in those end colors. (They are only 1"x1 1/2")

I was pre-warned that they're tiny, and to be honest I wouldn't have bought them out of my own budget, for that reason! However, as an extravagant treat bought from a cash gift (and the two of them together pretty much used up all that gift...) I felt like I wanted to try them out. I mayyyyy regret it. But we'll see.

Valerie, do you have any photos of designs you've painted with this kit? The colours are really pretty. If anyone else has photos of faces they've painted with FairyFly kits, I'd be really grateful, too. I've already watched Silly Heather's videos.

I have a (misshapen ) butterfly in the Show and Tell. I'll see if I can find the link. As I said I love the colors in it. And I like the container.
Since it is a "gift" (not out of your regular budget ) I think you will enjoy them. You get to try out all those colors together and all at once.

I'm a bit confused what this has to do with the product, liquidlatex. We're talking about FairyFly kits rather than technique - did you post on the wrong thread?

So - got them in the post this morning! My opinions:

Rosebud is a lovely little set. Yes, tiny, but it's a nice novelty to have all the colours for a whole design in one place. The "leaf" section is a slightly different texture to the others - creamier, somehow - but still useable. The "rose" section does make good rosebuds, though I don't like it quite as much as Cameleon "Roses" with its touch of yellow. The colours in the larger "rainbow" section are well-balanced and go on well, with the gentle gold in particular making for a very pretty mask.

Candyland has really pretty colours, but a couple of down points. The purple (in one of the arty cake sections and the larger rainbow half) is a good bit less opaque than the colours it's been placed with, so it disappears a little on application. The beautiful teal and blue in the larger section, in particular, really do overwhelm it. The "leaf" arty cake makes lovely snakes, as demonstrated by my little boy who's refusing to wash it off his arm. In general - a lovely set, but a shame the purple isn't stronger and I can't see me getting as much use out of this one as "Rosebud".

I do like these sets, but they're very expensive for the amount you receive, IMHO. On the other hand, I love the container and can see me refilling it in future. The sponging area will take a little getting used to as it's smaller than my DFX/TAG rainbows, but still useful. I see what Valerie means about there not being much room to load a 3/4" or 1" brush in the arty cake sections, but it's doable, and again will come easier with practice.

If anyone from Silly Farm is reading this....more tutorials and designs based on these sets, pretty please with a cherry on top!
