Thanks Denise! I guess I will wash til the cows come home.
Sponges get softer after boiling? I have some Kryvaline sponges that are black, but they are firm and awkward to use, so I think I'll boil one and see what happens! Have you tried Kryvaline black sponges? I'll post after experimenting with this.

I think they are too hard. My friend likes them but she soaks them before use.

I boiled one for about 15 minutes, and it is just the same. Yes, I noticed they are softer after soaking. She is having the manufacturer produce both in the near future. I hope this is the answer to our dreams! Smile

If you use procion dyes aka cold water dyes there is less chance of bleeding and by no boiling the sponges you'll keep the integrity of the sponge helping them last longer.

RIT changed their formula for both their powder and liquid dyes. I still have a HUGE bottle of their old black liquid dye that works fine.

Don't forget to let your sponges sit and dry after dying them before you hard core rinse them. They will run clear after a few washes, it's just takes time.

I would love to do this but just not sure..how often do you have to re-dye? Is Rit still the best to use or would something from dharma be better? (Sorry only about halfway through the thread!)

Btw, I keep my sponges in buckets (clean and dirty) under my table so no one really sees them other than what is in my hand..so I am not sure I will dye mine, but all black sponges would be so cool and is tempting..)

re-dye about once a year-ish

Apparently Rit changed their game up, do you might have to search fabric stores for a high quality dye of a different brand.

I keep my sponges in mesh bags, that way if there is any residual moisture, they can still air dry.
