Re: Trouble with White Paint on Eyes Creasing~ Help!
you can powder on top of wet paint to set it.. it helps just to let it dry before telling them to open their eyes..
Re: Trouble with White Paint on Eyes Creasing~ Help!
Ashley-I carry a large hand fan with me to wave at wet designs--helps if they are only a little sweaty, too, or if they have had their faces cleaned by one of my baby wipes--I won't paint food or dirt.

Thanks for the Kabuki brush idea Lizdexia, I did a few Cheetahs and lots of dreaded spider men yesterday using white starblend and smoothie blenders, but felt like i needed to blow on their faces after applying (which would be inappropriate!) so I could always give them a dusting with a kabuki instead! Also, the younger boys seemed to all be rubbing the corners of their eyes afterwards so I suppose the safest way to go is not too close to their lids.

You will find something that works for you, I disagree that Tag is not the answer - it may not be for some people but I use it all the time. I know Paradise is creamier/ideal for bases but I can't afford it and have had no problems with Tag white on eyes. I definitely let it dry before they can open their eyes, and if it's applied too thickly it can crack so that may be a problem. I also find Starblends way too sheer but it doesn't matter when you're only using it to set the paint underneath. That may help you but to be honest, when I've got a big line I ain't setting anything haha. I'm a bit disappointed with Starblends, or maybe it's the smoothie blender that's the problem. It is so small in comparison to a regular sponge that I can't see how I could possibly cover a whole face in it as quickly. I've used it with my BAMS and the pattern was perfect but didn't last. Oh well, at least I can use the black for drop-shadows!

oh...sorry if this is obvious but if the child scrunches their eyes it can leave creases

Well I am Wolfe all the way but yet I do love tag blends and the paradise blends as well. A kabuki is a great tip. Yet i sure wish I knew which brand to get becuase I have tried a few and they split all the time maybe because I get the cheap ones.

I have heard that Amy Grigg sells the best Kabuki brushes. I tried one once and apart from it looking impossible to clean on the job (though I've seen the paper towel idea now), I dont see how I'd be able to nice and sharply around Spiderman's eyes or let alone make the shape of the eye with one. If all the available paints were the same price, I'd have a lot more Paradise but it costs more than double what Tag does and I believe Wolfe is pricey here too. It's also annoying that Paradise doesn't come in 90g pots like Tag. If I was to replace Paradise white as often as I replace my Tag white the cost would be ridiculous!

I absolutely love wolfe so I don't know maybe I should try a paradise white. I didn;t like the tag white at all. i find tag is amazing with blends but full colors not to muc yet some are good.
You are right a kabuki for spiderman I don't think so. I use a chisel brush for spiderman I find thats the best. The I made a spiderman blend and do the rest with a 1 inch brush I love it and it looks better to me becuase it has shading in it with one brsuh stroke.

For kabukis I use royal and langernikel they come in two sizes cost about $14 for the small ones, $20 for the large (in australia) - the small ones are the best for the face out of the two. I bought some cheap ones (really cheep) after I bought the good one and they just were not as good gave me varied issues from cracking, to cover issues, to hair falling out etc.
Lauren the starblends come out better with the lollipop type blender (the cheeper one) that the smoothy type one for me anyway. I am not so good with the starblends (it is why i only bring black and white with me.) but since you have them try that. they also appaently come out better with the powder puff type thingys, but I havn't really tried that - but thinking you could mabye get them at priceline cheap one day in your travels?

and yep the kabukis are Amys ones
and how to round spidys eyes pinch at the bottom area of the kabuki say about 1cm mabye 2cm of the bristels tip to do it it basically sort of secures it. to either a large flat or round deepending on how you grip. then loosen and move up the grip for the centre i.e the squinty area enough to get those creases without overflow past the shape - I hope that makes sense? I used to do it that way before starblend thing.

I'm not sure what everyone is talking about? White around the eyes... I apply it with a sponge, make sure all the creases in the skin are coloured too with gentle pressure or asking them to relax their eyes... I've never noticed anything happening after I get it applied. Around or on the lids... it still looks fine later.
I use Snaz or Kryolan white for bases. The other brands I've tried (and that included DFX and Wolfe) in white are not great as bases - they either get waxy and shiny or are extremely drying.
The only Starblend I own is white, and I did not get it for face painting. I tried it dry once I'd heard about using it as a base for face paint and found it totally useless. Powdery and weak. I use it wet as a foundation to lighten up people for theatre or character make-up.
I was given a couple of Kabuki brushes but haven't tried them. I can't use them on the job (well, I could but I could only use it once on one person and then it would have to go home and be cleaned...) and I like my giant sponges for getting a base down on a body.
I use clean brushes and sponges for every person, always have - even before I moved to Alberta. I would not work any other way.
