Creating a letter?

When sending letters (emails) to local businesses, etc. what do you guys include? I am guessing definitely a name, number, email address, website link and what you are interested in doing. But for me that is little more than a paragraph, I'm sure not enough to send to a business to sell them the idea.

Any advice, examples, or links on this topic?

Less is more. A long letter, email or anything else gets lost and no one wants to read them! The majority of my clients came from me making a call or sending an email. ...Several of which are annual, local events. There is NO right/wrong way.....just do it. Preferrably call. Say Hi, This is Katurah with KD Designs. ......Who do you have scheduled for face painting for _______ or, what activities do you have scheduled for your children's area for____....Have you considered professional face painting?.....good luck!

Did you ever find that sample letter on shannon's site .. I cant seem to find it either
