Woo! Welcome back hockey season!

We must have done a good job last hockey season because we're going back tonight for the home opener! Not the best hourly pay for these, but we put out our tip jars and it is a lot of repeat gigs for them. I mainly like it because it's usually on Tuesday or Thursday which is a night that is generally not a booking option for clown work. A few times I've made more in tips than we got hourly for doing it and today COULD be one of those as they've got a big outside party before the game where we will be.

Can I ask what you and our forum think are some of the best ways to build the sports side of our businesses..... Did you show up with cards and face painted? Show a portfolio? or did you call and make an informal business proposal? or know the right person??

Actually, this one is something I'm doing through my mentor clown... I'm not sure exactly how she went about pitching it to them, but I believe it is through the promotions guy for the hockey team. She doesn't generally show up places with her own face painted... she doesn't even wear makeup as a clown, just a nose and some freckles. I believe it started out as just her doing balloons during the breaks in the game, then they wanted to make things a little bigger and asked her to bring in face painters for before the games. We are usually outside the main doors for about an hour and a half before the game starts. It is for a lot less than our usual hourly BUT it's sometimes more than once a week when the games are going and it's great exposure. Now, because it is through her, we give out her cards, but I'm always sure to wear my full costume and name tag, so I am still getting exposure anyway.

The hockey gigs are great fun! I did the Aces finals last year 3 large Tale gate parties, and the Aces called me this year to work the games. The fans are great the PR is AWESOME so I am so feeling you Perry. I had pix taken of me paintin a ladies chest for her fave player it was cool. Congrats rock it!

You GO! That is AWESOME! I love free advertisement! I didn't even know it but apparently I made the Hometown newspaper here. LOL. The teller at the bank said , "Hey, I saw you in the newspaper didn't I? You were face painting?"

I've been in their online pictures a few times, but this was the first time it went to print. Of course our paper NEVER puts the names of the people who deserve the credit, but oh well.
