What works best on darker skin tones?
I know I've seen this covered, but I've just searched and searched for it, and can't locate the threads.
Can anyone guide me to links on how best to get colors to show up on black and dark-toned skin? Which colors and which products work best, worst, etc.?
Thank you so much!!

Re: What works best on darker skin tones?
Joan, I am one of those who asked the same question already. A little research and here's what I've come up with. Anyone please feel free to correct me if I make an incorrect statement.
Metallic colors are great on darker skin as are bold, vibrant colors. Plain white can look washed out so a metallic white (or black) work better.
Watched a great class by Karen Sawyer and something she said really clicked. Think it applies to all skin hues. Look for the undertone of the skin and try to come up with a complimentary color (one ACROSS the color wheel) if you want the color to pop. All skin will have undertones in yellow, pink, etc. and complimentary colors will stand out more than colors in the skins undertone shade i.e. person with yellow undertones stay away from the yellowish shades.

Re: What works best on darker skin tones?
Thank you Martha
That's a really nice summary.
I just was able to find some links. I was searching "black skin" but getting every thread that had the word "black" in it. Then I searched "tone" and got the links for dark skin tones.
There's a lot of info there. But your summary is cool, and especially the part about looking for the undertone. I like that!

Glad I could help. To some extent of course you are going on trial and error but knowledge is power or so they say. Check out some of the websites of some of our forum members. You can get a general notion of what shows up prettiest on darker skinned people. Kumi has an awesome site....love her designs.
