Balloons blow up so differently when it's super cold out. It's very hard to judge how much air to use. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Cold Weather & Balloons Empty Re: Cold Weather & Balloons

I'll ask my son and would love to hear other opinions. I noticed this when we were hired for an outdoor gig a couple of weeks ago. There was a high wind advisory and it was only around 45 degrees. When my son first started pumping the balloons (260's) I noticed they looked like they were custom shaped, almost like sausage links.

He did figure out some sort of method though, because after a few they no longer looked like that.

OK, I'm guessing none of you balloon twisters have had this problem?

I've not noticed...I've bought bags of balloons that had 'frozen' - the twister who sells them said that warming them up with a hair dryer is fine, lol - and I know certain colours are different diameters (ie standard orange 260's inflate skinnier than other colours), and some 160's inflate in a complete circle instead of straight, but...I don't 'get' what you mean, lol.

Clarify? You mean when you can see the marks where each pump fills to?

I haven't had any trouble twisting in cold weather (except for frozen fingers).... I've done plenty of twisting in the cold, but the balloons work pretty much the same (actually better since they pop more in the heat).

Let me see if I can clarify better Very Happy
When we(my daughters do more of the twisting these days) blow them up the 260s seem thinner & the air ratio is off.
Ex. would be if I left a hand length uninflated normally, I end up w/ a tail on the end of my design or I'll end up running out of balloon before the design is complete. I just can't seem to get the feel of the ballons when it's cold.
Balloons just feel different/weird/off when it's very cold out.
I hope this makes sense Very Happy
TY!

I suppose in comparison to Florida heat, they might be a little different... burp them a little more or fill them a little less I guess. Rubber isn't as stretchy when it isn't as hot.

True... I have the opposite problem when it's super hot. They just pop & pop & pop. Keeping them in a cooler doesn't work. Some days are just not good balloon days here Very Happy

So, I finally remembered to ask my son what he did to rectify the sausage effect he was getting in the cold weather. He said all he needed to do was fully inflate, then deflate, then start again with no problems.

Linda, are there specific colours that pop more in the heat? Jewel tones are AWFUL in the summer. I'm using up the last of my magenta 260's, then I am not ordering any jewel tones again, with the exception of black and clear. They're gorgeous colours, but trickier to work with in the heat - I'd rather stick with the standard and fashion colours Smile

My husband feels the same way, Kristal. He actually has some jewel tones laying around that he really should toss, because he is NEVER going to use them.

Oh, I hate jewel tons! They're so pretty, but stiff, hard to work with & pop so easily. I'll never buy them again.
We were actually having trouble with all the balloons. Maybe it was because we went from a warm car to a cold outdoor event(it was our 1st "cold" event... 60 w/ wind Very Happy ).
