[i]Oh my gosh, I love love loved yours! I was practicing today with my niece, and I showed this to her and she told me I should try it, haha. I hope you don't mind that I used your picture for inspiration, I just really liked it. I'm not entering in the contest or anything, I'm a newbie and I've always wanted a shot at a Sugar Skull.
She freaked out when she saw herself in the mirror, it was great!

Although, I have to say I'd like to do so many more, as the women on this forum are soooo original and my ideas are just all over the place...this one looks boring to me now lol. Fun, but needs more pizazz! Perhaps tomorrow I'll tackle another one! Can anyone tell me if we can submit more than one or not?

I like to enter but been too busy working did all of my sugar skulls last year . I love painting sugar skulls everyone on this forum are AMAZING ARTIST sooooo happy I joined

you make gorgeous skulls, JUST!

here is mine..



materials used dfx black, dfx white, dfx gold, eulenspiegel metallic white, eulenspiegel teal, eulenspiegel pearl red, tag pearl pink, yellow-pink-red artycake, leaf artycake, round brush number 5, half inch chiselbrush, round brush number 2, sponges, dotterwand

step1: using a sponge, sponge on tag pearl pink, eulenspiegel earl red and black on the eyes and the nose
step2: sponge on eulenspiegel metallic white
step3: sponge on eulenspiegel teal blue
step4: add star and teeth in eulenspiegel teal blue (round brush number 5)
step5: add dfx gold around the eyes, nose and teeth and gold tooth and middle of flowers (round brush number 5)
step6: using a yellow-pink-red artycake creat peatls using a chiselbrush and with a leaf artycake create the leaves
step7: add dfx black detail and shadow (round brush number 5)
step8: add dfx white highlights (round brush number 2)
step9: with dotterwand add some black dots to fill empty spaces


and done!

yes..I always paint myself, since my kids don't want to get painted anymore or aren't around when I have time to paint..

others paint themselves too!

Wow. Amazing. Rae gotta say yours are a standout I cant believe how far your work has come since I disappeared from this place!! So many cool skulls. This contest has almost inspired me to pick up a brush again! Or at least enter the SBS of my ast sugar skull.. but i repeat amazing entries!

Here's my sugar skull. Hard to paint around my wrinkles!

#2 round brush
#8 round brush
#12 flat brush
sponge

TAG White, Pearl White, one stroke (teal, lavender, purple), yellow leaf
Snaz Yellow, red, orange, pink and split teal/white
DFX metallic blue, metallic black
Wolfe black, white



Outline design with TAG white



Sponge TAG Pearl White



Sponge DFX Metallic Blue for night/day on forehead. Use #12 Flat with Snaz Teal/white for clouds, TAG Purple/lavender/teal for waves and TAG yellow leaf for chin. Use #12 flat with Snaz yellow, orange, red, pink.



Use #8 round to fill in eyes and nose with DFX Metallic Black



Outline and highlight with Wolfe White and Black

Wow...I'm feeling very "small time" right about now....

So I wanted to try my first sugar skull but thought hey why not combine the two contest ideas into one... did it go as planned... probably not but this is what I came up with...I used Tag fairyfloss, 3/4 flat brush and a #10 brush and #1 brush as well as mehron white and mehron violet or should I say paradise.


Step one: I sponged and painted fairy floss on the eyes and lip area and then Painted a white base.


I then added a flower up top with some swirls and a green nose with two tear drops using #10 I sponged some purple to sink in under the cheek bones a little and then added some flowers,diamonds, tear drops and then swirls on the side using #0 brush.


added outlines with #0 brush and paradise violet.

Then added dots on eyes and swirls and tear drops. Finished with irredescent white glitter. Here is the finished product:

So I am thinking a little too busy in the picture... but I kinda like it in person... what do you all think? I didnt plan anything just kept painting and painting. Tries to use all the colours in the fairyfloss throughout. Hope you like it enjoy!
