Charging more for glitter tattoos or face painting?
I'm doing the Elvis Festival this coming weekend and will be doing face painting and glitter tattoos. At the moment I'm thinking of charging $5 a face and $7 per tattoo, but I'm conflicted about the pricing - on one hand the face painting takes longer and is more specialized/creative... on the other the glitter tattoos last longer, cost more in actual product and no one else will be offering them.
What do you think? Do you charge more for glitter tattoos or face painting when offered at the same event?
As this is the Elvis Festival and we get thousands of fans of all ages from all over, I've got about 120 Elvis stencils, which I hope will be a big hit. (I've no idea if that's a good number or not - but I'm only going to be active 2 days and need to leave enough time to actually be able to DO them, plus any face painting requested.)
I'd really appreciate your advice.
Thank you

I would charge the same amount for the services. That way people have the option of choosing both. I often get people wanting face painting and a glitter tattoo. 120 is a good amount. Hopefully you sell out of them quickly.

I charge the same for a tattoo as for a face, but I just got in some really huge tats that will have to be priced higher...but 99% of them are the same as faces. $8 each.

Re: Charging more for glitter tattoos or face painting?
Thank you for the information - getting ready now and still not totally sure what I'll do... It's the difference between the possibility of $700 and $500 (if I'm able to sell them all), that's getting to me now... but I think I'll probably take both your advice and charge the same for both.
Getting ready to go now - nervous that it'll be too hot, that there will be too much of a crowd (on a sidewalk outside a store - don't want to bottleneck it) or that there won't be any customers that I'll be pricing too high or too low... but the excitement is running and I know once I put paint to face it'll all feel okay and right and once I see the smile when they look in the mirror everything will be worth it again

I charge more for glitter tattoos because the stencils cost much more than my paints, they last longer & are more time consuming to do(in my fumbley hands opinion ).

Thanks for responding psalm - I'm with you on that (I find most face painting to be quicker too)
Well, I'm done the Elvis festival and the best I can say is, I at least made back the money for the order of the stencils I placed...
and I've got a killer 'tan" (okay, maybe more of the killer and less of the tan - more like burned arms and face actually...OUCH! *note to self* remember sunscreen!!!)
I don't know what happened really, except that I was placed behind a display of things, so people didn't easily see me (I had free space to work, so couldn't easily complain)... but it was one of my slowest days yet...
of course, it was incredibly hot so that could have something to do with it - people were just walking on by quickly, looking for shade...and the face paints were melting even though I had them under the canopy provided (but my body was outside the canopy = hence the burned arms etc.)
Apparently, according to the chap who let me face paint in front of his store, tomorrow is mostly people packing up to go home, so as per his advice I'm not bothering to go back tomorrow.
I did end up charging $5.00 per face or glitter tattoo and a couple of people bought both, so that worked out well.
I just wish it'd been busier and cooler
(Ah well, at least I'm already stocked up with Elvis tattoos for next year )
