Hey! Think of how sanitary the spray paint would be! You wouldn't even have to worry about re-using a sponge!

I once heard a story that may apply here, there was a father and his kids wanted to see an R rated movie. The father said no because it was rated R. The kids said "there is only just a little swearing, nudity,...." Dad still said no. The very next day dad made brownies for the kids. As the kids were enjoying the brownies, the dad said "kids I just wanted to let you know that the brownies only have a "little" poo Shocked in them, only a smidgen. Do you catch my drift?

I think the story may have originally come from Joel Osteen. I use it in so many scenarios, especially with my kiddies. Very Happy

Okay this article popped up in my google alerts....

Anyone else see the irony in people demanding someone stop painting an ELEPHANT in craft paints???

Yes they always used that at analogy at church too for everything from lying to convincing girls not to have sex before marriage. I personally hate those kind of "lesson learning" experiences and do not find them very effective as they usually do not correlate well with the actual lesson trying to be taught.

Not only that if you actually go as far as to really give your kid brownies and then tell them there is poo in them you are teaching your children that it is ok to lie in order to teach someone a lesson. Unless you actually put poo in them in which case you are teaching your children that it is ok to endanger their lives to teach them a lesson. In either case the trust you had with the child is eroded.

In my brothers case it gave him the bright idea to bake poo into brownies to feed his enemies..... So I don't see it as clever I see it as highly disrespectful and counterproductive.

Just think how you would react if your friend or boss gave you brownies and told you there was poo in them after you ate one to teach you a lesson of some kind. I am pretty sure you would not be inclined to learn whatever the lesson was they were trying to teach you and would probably not work for them or trust them as a friend after that.

Sorry for the off topic rant but that "lesson" has always pissed me off.

I actually do not see any irony in it. Are craft paints approved for animal skin? Why should it be ok to paint an animal with something harmful to it and not a person?

Personally it sounds like the over all treatment of this animal was horrendous not just the paints used.

People take to streets to stop an elephant being painted... but I don't really see any similar steps being taken to stop children being painted with the same products.

Perhaps "irony" wasn't quite the right term... CJ, help? What did I mean?

I think the point of the story is that having "just a little bit of wrong" in something really can ruin the whole thing. I would never have imagined that someone would actually try doing poo brownies. It's a metaphor, not meant to be taken literally.

I use the story in a ton of life lessons for my kids. So far they have been receptive and are able to comprehend the metaphor I'm using. What's the saying, " One bad apple, ruins the bunch...."

No, I don't put poo in my kids brownies (wasn't meant to be taken in the literal), but bad is bad, even if its a little! Only 1 HIV cell will contaminate the body - Now that one was extreme! Shocked

I understand she didn't want to start a debate. We can't help but feel passionate about healt and safety. As for the original question about calling yourself a professional, I think all the input given clearly answers that point.

I actually have acrylic craft paint in my cupboard (used for scrapbooking, my other addiction), until reading this topic it has never even occured to me that people are actually using this stuff on faces, I have never even thought of using them for face paint. Acrylics can be really hard to get off (I've had to explain to clients in my full time job why my hands are such a mess after I've used it). My child also has very sensative skin, therefore I am always very wary about what touches his skin, I use Diamond FX and Snaz and will always try new product on me first before applying to others.

I'm going to get off my soapbox now but I believe that the results will always speak for themselves. One person who has a great result or experience will tell two or three of their friends, one person who has a reaction or bad experience (or cracked face) will tell EVERYONE!! Doesn't take much to ruin a reputation!!

I'm diong it. (I'm going to put on a peel-off type face mask first, then the paint over that.) If you have any requests for designs, better send them now before the base mask dries.

I'm sure someone would make the argument that the peel off face mask was why it peeled the way it did... just playing devil's advocate.

I stick with the point that on the bottle it says, "to remove from skin, use soap and water WHILE WET" .... that would be accidentally getting it on your hands... not putting it on the most sensitive part of a child's face and leave it there for a few hours before scrubbing it off with scouring pads.

As for it making them a "professional" or not, well call yourself what you want. I don't consider it very professional behaviour but a title is a title, whatever.

Perry, that is a good point. I actually couldn't find the mask in the closet so I just went on ahead with it before I lost my nerve. So the photos above are on bare skin. I took them right after the paint dried and I just sort of stretched my face out-- like a huge yawn and a few eyebrow raises- in case someone would like to say that I abused the paint to make it look like this.

It wasn't terribly hard to get off to be honest- I wet my face and then rubbed a bit with a washcloth. I didn't have to scrub, but it was definately more than a wipe. It sort of peeled off in clumps. (I'll probably have to unclog my sink later!) I think it might have taken some of my skin with it though because I had a sort of burning feeling afterward. And I can't believe I'm going to post this picture because it is totally hideous, but I thought it was important to show what my skin looked like afterward. Lots of redness on my chin, forehead and nose that are not usually there. Professional Face Painter - Page 3 Img_7813
