Your setup

Hey everyone. I know that I enjoy seeing people's setups and getting ideas for mine... So I thought I would dedicate this thread to that... Please post all of your setups... I don't have a festival one yet but I will this summer!!

Looks really nice, but don't you feel really spread out? I try and keep my stuff in about a 1 foot X 2 feet area so it is all right at hand.

Or maybe this is your face painting and tatts set up with the glitter. I wouldn't normally do them together as I have found that glitter blows all in my paint.

It actually looks more condensed when I actually work.... I opened everything up for show for the picture and I did put the glitter tattoo stuff out also. Usually I have this long container that holds all of the starblends and split cakes... But yes I do have a lot of stuff and I like having a lot Maybe it seems bigger also.. this is a smaller fold out table... Maybe 3 feet long...

Don't get me wrong, I like having lots of stuff, but I found that I always reach for the same stuff. I just figured why bring it, if I won't use it? Do you use everything?

I just do things like have metallix powder on hand to make something metallic if I don't have it or mix it with white to lighten it or a darker color to darken up. I just don't like taking a lot of stuff. I get so paranoid about forgetting stuff that the less I have the less i'll forget.

holy quacamole that's a lot of stuff.... I have 20 paint colours in a similar container to the one you got from Michael's... water basin and I don't usually use more than 4 or 5 brushes... a bag of sponges and some wipes.

Not criticizing... just saying.... that's a lot of stuff

What is the pool noodle thing. I don't remember that from the last jam. Do tell, Michele!

It's not a perfect picture here either... off the edge of the picture are baby wipes, cash box and most likely my balloons. The document holder in front has colouring pages and the page on the table is the Snazaroo safety page (laminated) with a few business cards laying on top of it.

Well, my festival set-up is in my gallery, but it'll probably change the next time I set up, as I use the jumbo palattes now. Here's a pic of everything I take to a gig (which is just about everything I own... I shy away from buying one of everything)

That is funny, I guess I never really thought of myself as having that much stuff... I thought I was probably at 'just the right amount' haha!! What are metallic powders Metina?? Sounds intriguing!! (see now I want to buy something else!!) lol

I got a sample in my last DFX order. I think they are what the industry call Mica powders. I don't know too much about them yet. I am really trying to use this up to see all its potential.

So far I have used it over other colors to make it look shiny or have also taken a split cake and sectioned it in half, then took a knife and cut a crevase in the middle of the other half. Poured in some powder and now one side is matte and the other side is slightly metallic. Still working on how much to add.

Perry, do you not get the kids to sit when you paint?

I feel the same way, since something I really needed fell out of my tote at my first big gig. However, I sorta kinda changed out my paints from the longer small box since I got some DFX paint I will take a photo at my gig tomorrow nite but you can see a bit of it here. It's perched on top of my larger pallet.

I made use of my other T-shirts as chair covers that are great advertisements. I just used a safety pin on to join the arms so it fits over the chair, pillowcase style.
OT: Ok, this photo was taken for Marcela's 'What to wear' challenge and yes, I do wear a hat on a bad hair day but Erica is going to create a feather headband for me that is more compact! :(Sigh, When I added them to the March Jam review, she got orders across the nation and sold out immediatly, so I have to wait untill the new feather supply comes in for mine)

Ok, as promised, here are last nights photos of my setup at Fuddruckers showing the new pallet for one stroke colors for my #15, 3/4 & one inch brushes ...



When I ordered my T-shirts from Vista Print, I got a Banner & two lawn signs that say 'Fuddruckers Free Face Painting Thursday Night 6-8pm' on each side as a gift for the manager, who just gave me a raise ; )

I made that order when I received an offer of free uploads, premimum business cards, lawn signs, banner & t-shirt. The T-shirts were $14.95 because of the black color, front & back custom color printing. I had to pay for the backside printing and stand for the lawn sign ($7) and the hanging tab edges for the banner ($4) but in all, I think I got a great deal for what I received to achieve a more professional look.

BTW; a laminated sheet of photos of the banners & lawn signs make great addition to my prospecting display sheets to show prospective clients how I can attract attention to their business when I paint for them on a weekly basis.

You mentioned you have a compact setup when we did the Set-up Tour at the Woodbridge Jam. I would love to see a photo of it

Also, let us know how the mica worked out in your sparkley/matt paint combo.

This is my "mostly" Snaz set up which is what I use most. As mentioned on the other thread, not pictured is the tray of split cakes that I use with this set up too.

Have those glasses with the marbles ever tipped over? OH MY! That is all I can think of now.

Nope, and I vowed that if they ever did....even once....that I'd never use them again. They're very heavy, stay put and the kids love the way the look.

I knew it was a good Idea to buy my headband from Erica last month! I saw that turq/green/black with "diamonds" (middle of pic) and I simply HAD to have it. Need some more....Oh Errriiiicccaaaaaaaa? lol

to answer the question, No, I don't have the kids sit. If I'm sitting, they are usually at just the right height and if necessary, I stand up to reach them.... if they are REALLY tall, then we switch and they sit while I stand.

I'm contemplating changing it, but I no longer have a mini van and my other idea of using a small step ladder to sit them on won't fit as well into my G5.

I have this chair for the kids when I am sitting down... It is small enough to fit in my car and folds nicely, got it at walmart...

I had those chairs before I got my director's chair. The one thing I didn't like is that the back leans back, so it encouraged them to recline away from me when I was painting.

Love standing and painting more now.

that's the kind of chair that I use for me, but I find it unsteady for them to use.... I got mine at Canadian Tire for $10

I will try to get a photo of my setup one of these days. I never seem to have my camera with me when I am set up somewhere, but now I have a camera on my phone, so it should be easier to snap a pic......provided I remember to, of course....LOL

Here is my full setup. I have a mini set up that I use for impromptu things but I rarely use it now that I've gone to the magnets. If I'm doing a gig with a specific design sheet for the kids to choose from I simply swap out my paints to accomodate the list and bring a single case insted of two. Yes...I'm a tart...I know...but I had help

This is my setup prep table at home. I do a full setup before gigs to make sure I don't forget anything. It's worked so far...so far. My paint boxes are magnetized and my paints all have magnets on the bottom so I can close my case and everything stays put. Another benefit is that I can swap out colors (here they're organized by manufacturer) for a particular gig if I only want to bring out one case. I did that for a gig at a car dealership this weekend and it worked great (now I have to go and put everything back in order, lol.

This is my set up for a big gig when I'm not limited to fast design.I'm right handed so this works really well for me if I set my chair up alongside the paints.
