Starblend Skull - Page 3 Empty Re: Starblend Skull

No, I tried them wet and I couldn't get them to go on as expected. I got little clumps. I had to buy a new white. It was cool that they dried to a powder but it took a bit of effort to even get them worked up and then it didn't seem that much more opaque....might as well use white.

Keep them dry, IMHO.

So just layer it more to get it more opaque? I feel like a beginner with the Starblends! LOL My son was only here for a couple of days so I didn't get a chance to really play- just wanted some quick pics for my birthday board. But we found out this week that he's decided to move home and go to school here. Yippee! My hubby almost did cartwheels but I stopped him... we don't need any hospital bills Wink

Starblend Skull - Page 3 Lm-apr11

this skull was painted with starblends... the linework is either dfx or wolfe. I usually make the black starblend a little darker to contrast against the white and blend in the black line work better, but he was wiggly. The flames are a one-stroke flame cake that I made.

Squiggle, I think your white is plenty opaque. I think it's the black that needs to be darkened a tad... but YES. Layering the starblends works fabulously. You can get it as opaque as paint if you really want to.
CottonCandy... I LOVE that skull! It looks awesome!

$5 skull? I get $10 for mine (with or without the flames) and $12 when I add the arm bones.

Cotton kandy & Dawnie, your skulls are great and too good for only $5! I readjusted my ppf prices to have only $5 and $10 and a few at 12 & 15 to make giving change back easier. I figured I reduced the price of some $7 designs down to $5, and raised some $7 and $8 faces to $10 so it's balanced out and has saved me time in remembering which designs were which prices. Even though the skull is a relatively quick-to-whip-out design, it is a full face and the majority of ALL my full faces are $10. So far, its been working for me. the exceptions are adding the bones to make it $12. I also charge $12 for the half-sugar skull in my avatar, and $15 if it's the full-face sugar skull.

I just wanted a quick starblends design to do for $5 or at events when I have a ton of kids to get through. I also have a $15 skull version for festivals:

Starblend Skull - Page 3 Green-10

but it's too much for big events where it's free to the public Wink

But I'm really liking the starblends for boys... no wet icky paint and no waiting for the base to dry before putting in the details.

I agree. At least $7 for a skull mask. $10 for a full face skull.

I was doing it for Relay For Life last night. It's just easier for my husband to shell out change if I charge $5 for any face on my board. Even a small butterfly by the eye is $5. I did a lot of simple neon rainbows angled across the face with stars. So fast and easy. I think I only did 3 skulls and then one kid asked for a Zombie so I used the basics of the skull design. I need a brown Starblends!

Normally, my prices would be higher, but it was for a good cause Smile I painted over 50 kids, but my hubby lost count! Rolling Eyes

I love doing birthday parties. I only do festivals about 2 times a year.

Denise, you should have these printed and SELL them. I can't tell you how many times I've started on a board like this and I always flub something up, have to start over, get frustrated, and say to heck with it!!

Thank you! I'm making up boards for the local farm gig I got. I knew I had seen yours and fell in love with some of the designs so I had to find them again lol

I'll post my finished product once it's done Smile

Luvs to paint, with my board I'm using white foam board and painting on squares of black bristol board. I'll be attaching the squares one by one, this way if I mess up a design I don't have to start the whole thing over Smile And I can make sure they have equal spacing betweek them.

That's going to be cool...please do share. That's also a way to get rid of those designs you THOUGHT would be cool but you hate after you've done them a dozen times. Smile Tell us how it goes.

I have those: a design popular with the kids but I cringe every time someone asks for it. While I'm painting it I wonder over and over in my head "WHY did I put that on my board today" and wishing I could put a big X on the board where that photo is.

I wish they still looked that black. They are starting to fade from the sun. I wonder if there is some UV protectant....probably is somewhere.

I'm glad though, now I have an excuse to add some new designs and change up my butterfly a bit. I've started doing the Jinny butterfly as my go-to and it's nice for those girls that say "I want this rainbow but purple too" so I just do the edges in purple and it's quick and pretty...you just have to make sure the brush is really dry...Sorry, I'm geeking out again.
