sort of a "Ghost Rider" vibe, or at least that's what I tell the boys.

i apply with those round flocked/sponge compact replacement puffs that come in a 3 pack from cosmetic dept of most stores, probably even the grocery stores carry them. usually 3 for around a $1. I can fold, pinch, maneuver with them.

Well, Starblends aren't perfect but as a china paints person, I really appreciate the ability to shade with them. I got a lot better at tapping off the applicator so there weren't as many fly aways and I liked that I could go back over a sheer place and add layers which is harder when you are sponging TAG.

I also just "sold" a mom who is having a younger child's birthday on the powders as a selling point so that the boys especially would feel more comfortable, etc. She wanted full faces (not "balloons on the cheek" type paintings) and was going to call me back because another painter was cheaper. I told her to look at my gallery and see what I can do and told her about how I do full faces and she decided to book me on the spot even though I was a little more expensive. Smile

Congrats! I love my starblends. I have most of the colors, but I rarely use the gray, but know better than NOT to bring it, you never know when someone might want to be a mouse, lol.

The flash on the camera makes the color appear flat. Just go with it and take a picture and see if you like it better. Also, you need to be aggressive with it. It's like eyeshadow, you need to go over it and rub it in there not just swipe it.

I'll try to do both the spidey and the skull as tutorials soon (if I can get my sons to cooperate) and you'll see better if I'm doing anything differently. Don't give up on them yet, I have really enjoyed them on the last three events I've done...little ones and boys (and dads) like them so much more. I just ordered the green and blue. I'm thinking they'll be a big boon to large parties where I have to go quickly.

Here's a starblend red skull with orange starblend highlights:

Starblend Skull - Page 2 Red_sk10

I'm still playing with shapes and jaw lines but I wanted to show you the teeth on here. I'm using a Christina Davison technique of putting the black behind the teeth and then I got a daisy brush (split filbert) and put white teeth on top and then used a wiped off black brush for the ridges above and below the teeth.

Amazing, that red is so powerful!
The teeth on the second scull look real! Great tip!

I've seen a painter use the SB's for butterflies too. Talk about FAST! she just made blended "spots" of various colors for the very little girls. It looked great. When I saw how fast it was...that is what inspired me to start painting faces. I guess I'll be playing with skulls!

I just watched Christina Davison again on FABAtv last night and really want a brown Starblend and try her lion in the Starblends, I think it would look great. The panda too. If you added black fuzzies with the brush or rake it would make a really cute panda. Maybe even her fox in orange...

I did't use Starblends for butterfly, but I put Ben Nye powders on top of neon rainbow butterfly to enhance the colors and it worked great! It's Marcela's trick.

Denise... I did the cowardly lion today all in Starblends (except for the whiskers) and posted it on another thread. The base is Oriental & Egyptian blended together with white used sparingly for highlights... Ebony and Black used for shadowing on the droopy muzzle and Black for the nose. I wanted to do more details but the kid had to go home.

I've been practicing for Relay For Life and wanted some fast $5 faces. I finally talked my son into a skull yesterday. I totally deleted the final face that had white highlights! Ugg! That's what I get for answering the phone in the middle of photo taking! Rolling Eyes

CKC... that is perfect the way it is for a $5.00 face... I wouldn't even worry about or bother adding any white highlights! cheers

For $5.00 I'd probably just make a mask and do the top teeth. Looks great. I love the S curve eyebrows and the way you shaded the forehead. Nice.

When my son was here a couple of weeks ago, I made him sit down and be my model and I tried some designs with Starblends on him. Here's the $5 skull I did on him...

Starblend Skull - Page 2 Small-11

I couldn't get the white very opaque... should I use a damp lollipop swab? I also should've used a thicker black line in places.
