Making your own glitter gel?
Hi ladies, I want to make my own glitter gel to bling up my henna designs, the stuff I have bought in cones so far has all taken ages to dry and I want something that is a little better, I have read up on using hair gel mixed with cosmetic glitter but a little concerned about how good that is for the skin if in prolonged contact (guess it depends on the ingredients?) and just this morning read about using Aloe Vera Gel which appeals to me more, my question is to those of you who have made their own what do you use and how quickly does it dry?
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance

About the same as Amerikan Body Art Liquid Bling. That's what they use.

The answer is it varies with the thickness of the line. Usually a good time frame to make sure it is completely dry is about 10 minutes. Longer if it is a massively thick line. Or you can use the pros-aide glitter tattoo glue and put glitter over that... that will dry the fastest and last the longest. We sell the kind pre-made with aloe in the shop.

Re: Making your own glitter gel?
I meant I want to use glitter gel in a cone in addition to the henna or in place of it for prom designs maybe, the stuff i bought from a henna supplier onlline took around 30 minutes to be touch dry which is just waaaaay too long! I have looked for pure aloe this morning but having problems finding anything without lots of additives, think I will have to resort to buying online but it is quite expensive for the amount you get :/
Re: Making your own glitter gel?
Here are the refills... You can load them in a cone. http://www.facepaintforumshop.com/servlet/the-687/Suzy%27s-Sparkles-cln---Silver%2C/Detail
Other than that you will just have to look around.

Thanks, I really want to make my own though, I have just found a health store nearby who sell 99.9% aloe vera so off to get some, I will post back with my results later

We call it zardosi and there are alot of ways to do it. Here is the most comprehensive 'how to' there is.

For actual brides and/or longer lasting results, I use Temptu and/or prosaid type glue and glitter. You can paint on the glue (this is what I usually do) or put it in a cone, wait to dry and then glitter.

Those are really beautiful Kim thanks for sharing
The guide says however that the glitter or glimmer take around an hour to dry, I wonder if the aloe vera will be faster or slower than hair gel?

Re: Making your own glitter gel?
I haven't used hair gel, but the aloe gel I use ( Fruit of the Earth- found it at Wal-Mart) takes about 8-10 minutes when piped through a really fine tip. At that point I can tap it moderately and it doesn't move or come off. @ 12-15 I can swipe across the design kind of roughly and it doesn't move. hth

Re: Making your own glitter gel?
The idea with the actual gel is that if you are using it with wet henna anyways, then they are more likely to behave and not smudge. Where quick drying comes in is when you are doing small people or 'only' the glitter. If it's with the henna on, they shouldn't be touching it for at least a half hour anyways. BUT if you are thinking about drying times, then experimenting never hurts, but be aware of two things. If hundreds of people already have 'been there, done that' for years and these are the tried recipies, unless you have a new gel that is brand new to the market with new or different characteristics than what is already available, it has likely already been tried. (Seriously....every henna conference this comes up and experiments and trial runs are done on dozens of new products and ideas) You may well be wasting alot of time and money trying to re-invent the wheel! LOL (which is ABSOLUTELY up to you!)
If you want something that dries in under 2 minutes, than at this point your options are - body paint, glue and glitter, temptu.
IF you do manage to somehow come up with something completely new that dries quickly, do share! Cause I'm sure people will really want to know about it! I know I would! Good luck and happy kitchen creating!

Thanks everyone ten to fifteen minutes would be ok I think, I wonder how come the cosmetic glue dries so quickly? What is temptu please? I am in uk don't know if we have it?

Alcohol based body paint. I'm sure other shops sell it and certainly in the UK. Just use 'google-Fu' and some searching and I'm sure it will come up. Dries super quick and just a touch sticky. Set with baby power, but I set with mica for extra shimmer.

Re: Making your own glitter gel?
Kim when you are coning the prosaide glue do you fill the cone from a big bottle? And if so where do you get big bottles from? So far I've just found the little ones.
Re: Making your own glitter gel?
I do fill a VERY small cone with a VERY small hole to no hole as it comes out pretty fast. A jaq bottle with the very smallest tip can work too, but prefer a cone. I have gotten mine in the past from a medical site and from Henna Sooq and from Henna Caravan. Not sure what the postage would be for you tho!

LOL Thanks but I'm far from amazing or unlimited..... Just when it comes to certain subjects! I actually consider myself to be about as average as average gets!! EXCEPT when I am interested in something! Henna and things that go with it are my life sooo......yeah...I'm a 'henna geek'! LOL
