Designs for glasses?
What designs have people found works best for clients who wear glasses and want you to paint 'whatever you like' on them?
Re: Designs for glasses?
Me and my daughter both wear glasses and I paint the same thing, that I do everyone else. I tell them to make sure the paint is dry first before they put their glasses on.
If someones says "paint whatever you want", I start asking questions about what they like off my board and what their favorite color is etc, and usually they pick something,or I will suggest something and they agree.

I wear glasses too... unless they have really thick rims, it will barely affect the design at all. Even if they do have thick rimmed glasses, the only thing I would avoid is putting a lot of detail on their temples if it will be covered by the arms of the glasses.
Re: Designs for glasses?
I try not to put anything over the ridge where the glasses sit, other than that... free for all!!

Re: Designs for glasses?
I paint regardless of glasses. People who wear glasses want to have the same fun as the rest, so why not?

I also paint the same, just make sure that the colours go with the frame, like I try to make sure it match the outfit.
Re: Designs for glasses?
So no one here thinks some designs are better for us four-eyed monsters than others.... I don't know... this mandril just doesn't have the same effect with glasses... lol, This design is from the Wolfe Bros. Wild Animals... and it only took me 1 1/2 hours.... guess I better work on my speed eh???

Neat picture!
Either speed up or don't offer it : ) That book is what i like to think of as Play Time Painting- I don't think I would ever offer those during a gig.

Great work Judy! Your fur technique is excellent!!
A lot of the WB stuff is not meant, IMHO, for real world face painting. It's awesome, effective and really cool... but not something I do on the job... on the job it is all about getting through the line and unless you are Nick or Brian and can paint a Mandrill in less than 5 minutes there is no point in even trying to!!
They are great to paint to get photos, for practise and to try and learn the different bits but... I don't know all that many that can knock off those designs in under 5 minutes... me included.
It is possible to adapt the designs, simplify them to suit your style and be able to do some fast versions... but don't get stressed if you find trying to paint those designs takes a long time.... a REALLY long time!!
Some of their work can be done by most painters - the skulls for example, and they have done some designs specifically that CAN be done in a reasonable time frame - but the show off stuff... have fun but don't panic!!

Re: Designs for glasses?
Shannon,
You have no idea how happy I am to have ready your post. I was actually thinking that I wouldn't reach my face painting proficiency until I was able to produce those advanced faces in 5 minutes or less! I know... I'm not the sharpest pencil in the box...but still, it's good to know that I can lower the bar to where I can actually reach it! lol!

Re: Designs for glasses?
^^^^^^^ I TOTALLY echo that, Lady Jayde! I sit here freaking out because some designs take me a long time...I'm GLAD to hear that it's not standard to whip them out in 5 or even 10 minutes!!! Admittedly, I still need to work on speed, but this definitely eases my mind as well!
Re: Designs for glasses?
Thanks Shannon for the reality check! I'm definitely at the point of trying to improve speed but don't want to sacrifice quality. I know the kids will wash it off in a few hours or it will start smearing due to sweat or the occasional tear but I want it to look good when they leave my chair. I think the speed will come with more practice and confidence. Can all the designs in your book be done by you in 4 minutes (just wondering as it will give me a concrete goal to shoot for)? Here's my version of your butterfly... it took me 7 minutes... but I think I can bring down the time seeing as I'm still fumbling with my brushes!

Re: Designs for glasses?
The designs in the book are 5-7 minute designs and that is a "normal" speed for a professional. I can do that butterfly in under 4 minutes and I think I can paint it blindfolded ...
If you did it in 7 and you are just starting fantastic! You'll just pick up speed as you do it more and more.

Re: Designs for glasses?
I ignore glasses, I ask them to please take them off and hold them in their lap so that I don't get paint on them and then proceed as normal!
As for the time thing, most of my stuff takes 2-3 minutes... but if I have time, I'll whip out something like a unicorn donkey(which took about 5 minutes, that's a long time for me!!)
I love a good strange request!
