Postcard blitz... what do I say?
I'm preparing for my first postcard blitz, hoping to land some company events this year, not just birthday parties.
I have the postcards, and I'm hoping to also include a short letter introducing myself and what I do. I've never wrote a letter to a company so I'm a little unsure of what to say.
And since I've never done a corporate event, I'm not sure how to say what the BENEFITS are of adding face painting to their event. What are the benefits? I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea what I can say to entice them to hire a face painter, what it would add to any potential parties or events they have. If anyone has any example letters they'd be willing to share, that would be really useful as well.
Right now I'm forming a list in a few different categories: restaurants, hotels, gyms/recreation, schools, etc. I'd like to customize the letter according to each group, as well. I'm just having trouble formulating what to say, and WHY they should hire me, why I'm worth the extra money (as opposed to getting some volunteers to face paint). Also... I have no clue what KINDS of events these companies/schools/etc. even have... so that's another difficulty.
Help?

Re: Postcard blitz... what do I say?
I'm working on this, too! I have some cards in the making, not finished yet, so I have some time to figure it out. Someone said that it's important to not talk just about yourself. Kind of a new concept for me, but it makes sense. I've been so busy trying to sell myself, that I wasn't really paying attention to the needs of the potential client. Mistake I won't make again.
There are some local events coming up in a couple months, and they are having face painting. I called to see if they have their face painter lined up, and they do it in-house. So I'll send them a card to try to convince them of the benefit of hiring a pro, instead of letting the teens do it.
I'm going to watch this thread to see what kind of response you get.
Good question!

Re: Postcard blitz... what do I say?
I'm having the same issue! I'm very unsure who to send letters to, like for example if I send it to a school is the letter for the principle?
Re: Postcard blitz... what do I say?
Yeah... WHO to send it to is another issue all together. I'd feel weird calling all of these places and saying "Hi! Who is in charge of party planning? K thanks bye!"
Maybe it would be more effective to just go in person to hand out postcards? I'm so shy that it would be very difficult too, but it would save on postage too. Hmmmmm.

I work for the school district! But there is not an Event planner. Pretty much ther's different departments that do their own thing. It's a bit complicated. I think that we are better off with private schools!
Re: Postcard blitz... what do I say?
I sent out 40 postcards to various businesses and local companies before Christmas. I only heard back from one of them - the local TV station who needed a slot filled - from there I did a 10 minute slot on the TV channel face painting and ended up doing a back painting for one of the presenters, which she put in a series of videos she's doing.
So, I didn't get much of a 'quantity' return, but the 'quality' (opportunity to reach many) was there.
I'm presently doing a bunch of new face painting for a portfolio/album that I want to take around to local restaurants that host a 'kids' night" (and also the library and anywhere else I can think of.) I'm planning on approaching the managers personally with the albums and seeing if I can work out a regular feature position at their business.
I'd love to get two nights a week, ideally for 4 hours a night (I'm thinking 4-8pm) But even a couple of times a month would make a huge difference to my income.
Good luck to you all too!
May face painting opportunities shower on us all
