TAG paints are melting :(
Exactly as the title states....It's so hot and humid here that the paints are melting out of their containers. I just made up a new kit for someone. She said she left her kit in her room on a shelf with the case slightly on an angle....came back and most of the paints had bled into each other or out of their container. *sigh*. I suspect she probably left her kit in the car, but it has been so hot here lately that i'm also inclined to believe that her room did get that hot - no air con on and all that.
Anyway, i'm sure i can salvage the paint but it's such a sad sight to see brand new paint turned into mush (she sent me pics). TAG light blue/ dark blue seem to be the most susceptible to the heat, followed by their purple, neons, and browns/ skin tones. Even my kit is doing it and i make sure to leave it in a coolish place.
What can you do to try to 'harden' the paint back up? Stick it in the freezer for a little bit? Or can anyone suggest another brand that holds up well to hot/ humid conditions? I might have to switch brands to get through the summer months.
p.s it's kind of funny that i'm writing about paints melting whilst the forum currently has lovely snowflakes falling in the background as I type

Re: TAG paints are melting :(
Not sure about freezing them. Might do more harm than good?
Although my TAG weren't quite melted, I noticed they were looking a bit too soft so I put them in the fridge overnight. Problem solved.
Probably not a bad idea to keep them in the fridge on those really hot days/nights. This will be my first summer as a face painter, so we'll see how we go!

Wolfe is the paint we use in florida 100 F degrees is the one I used until switch to TAG or podwer base paint (I've never tried it)
Re: TAG paints are melting :(
I have a kit that is about 95% Tag, I also live in a climate with heat and high humidity Sydney australia - not hot right now. The other paints are FX, wolfe Kyolyn and snaz.
what I can say is snaz is the worst, I have retire cake for the hot season.
now the amount of water that you have to use is a huge factor, in how quickly they goop. I have done 3 gigs on a 42c high humidity day. and the only solution was to open another brand new wolfe black, and dfx white halfway through day and continue. when I come home my whole family knows first order of business is to grab pallettes and paints and throw them in the fridge - they have there own shelf. after a couple of days by wednesday if they are still goopy - usually rainbow cakes, white black, orange and red. I have a very expensive convection microwave - oven and microwave in one etc. I take all goopy paints put it on 40c - fan forced oven function for about 80 mins. it is a very dry heat and gets the water out and paints super dry. I have as much problem with tag as any other brand. whatever white and black I am using suffer the most, and I own DFX,wolfe and Tag, in white and black.
another thing I found works is to put them on a shelf I have directly opposite the air conditioner when it is on.
but in terms of storage, any used paint - if the temprature climbs they live in the fridge. when it is low they go to a shelf. I was recently balloon twisting and it was cool when I left turned, into a a hot day and when I got home my husband and children had put the paints in the fridge.
my family gets that if mum dosn't have paint she can't make money, no money means no fun - they look after it even I am not there.

Re: TAG paints are melting :(
I don't love my TAG. They tend to be too soft and blend too much into each other for me. I used them more in the summer so this might be why. They are in my kit and I do use them, just not a huge fan. The price is nice though
I have an Excalibur dehydrator and never thought to put my paints in them between gigs! I'm going to have to give it a go!

Re: TAG paints are melting :(
I have posted this question to Joe at TAG. Being from Australia, hopefully they will have some insight.

Re: TAG paints are melting :(
I'd try the freezer(that's what you do for snaz). It won't make things worse & may help. Tone down on water usage w/ them as this can make them a bit gloppy. TAG is a softer paint than DFX/Wolfe.
I've had gigs where I've had to put away my TAG rainbowcakes as they've gotten too wet & chunks were coming out instead of smooth paint.
Store your paints without their lids. This also helps them dry out.
I'm noticing FAB(Superstar) paints have the same issue even when it's cool out). They are very soft & tend to get a bit mushy.

Re: TAG paints are melting :(
I have a TAG pearl & a Wolfe white side by side, and since they are unlidded always (we are dry humidity wise, though) they act the same. Using Metina's idea for dippy pots for the black & white helps keep the goop down on really long gigs on those, though, as that's where I have some issues.
When I first started I used snaz, and quit after that melted in the heat. As Luz noted Wolfe holds up & Paradise as well.

Re: TAG paints are melting :(
that's life in the tropics - 35 degrees celsius with 80% humidity.....It has been really hot here the past week
The fridge seems to work well in getting the paint to harden back up. I'll just have to get into the habit of popping them in the fridge after a gig.

Re: TAG paints are melting :(
I feel lucky that it hasn't been that hot latley here but I think the rain is detering people from face painting
and the tempritures you are seeing are not exagerated. and with humidity the paint isn't going to dry out, and fridging it after even in between gigs helps alot.
I remember living in QLD and trying to eat dinner at my sisters house, we all had sweat running off us to the point of hitting the floor. it was so bad we all got up midway and jumped in the pool. I soooo don't miss that.
But the nicest thing was the evening thunderstorms after a hot day. you knew it would make the next day more humid but by that stage you were just greatful for the relief.
it is aparently going to be a wet christmas, in sydney which although sounds bad I given that I am cooking for everyone is good for me, as I hate it when it is hot and humid outside and I have ovens going, and am in the kitchen etc.

Re: TAG paints are melting :(
this weekend was my first experience of this! I live in scotland but this weekend was 30 degrees and my Snazaroo melted! I hate snazaroo anyways, so was just using them to get rid of them. Remarkably my Grimas held up well! my paradise white went a little runny and my DFX black was gloopy, but I feel ANY black melts in sun from any make! I put them in freezer all the time, its fine it hardens them up! My one strokes Tags were actually ok! so the best in my exeperience were Grimas and Tag, but not got all the colours in Tag and paradise and DFX to really say? can anyone else male a list?
