Any rules about painting in a park for a party?
I've just booked a party that's being held in a public park. Is there anything I need to take into consideration? Sorry, I guess this question is more aimed at the Aussies since I'm sure the rules/laws are different around the world. I now have public liability insurance, but do I need to get council permission or anything like that? I'm not setting up a PPF type of thing, it's for a private party, so I assume it's ok, but just want to check. Thanks.
Re: Any rules about painting in a park for a party?
I had my wedding in a park and it was the hosts(me at the time) responsibility to get permission, so thet the celebrant (a service) could come. But the council didn't really care in all honesty as long as we (again the hosts) cleaned up the mess/litter.
other than that wind and glitter don't mix well and make sure you have some shade.
Good luck I hope it helps and think it should all be OK.

I think you have to look at it this way...if you were at a party in the park with a large family group, and you started painting, who could say anything?
Many parks have a fee or permit if you have a large party, but that would be up to the hostess/host. Your only concern as far as liability or responsibility is to do your best to ensure that anyone you paint is WITH the party you are with ONLY! You are not vending in the park so even if there is someone else there, they can't do a thing... you are brought in entertainment.
I've run into this before at a large tourist attraction we have here. I was brought in privately for a group and security enquired and was told that I was not for anyone else and they made sure I was aware (although I already was) that I was to contain my services to the party that hired me.
You also may need extra cards to hand out to people that are not with your party who enquire about getting done or who want to know how much. A quick "I'm sorry but I've been hired by these lovely people and I will be unavailable afterwards, but please have a card for reference and thank you for asking!"
You should say you are unavailable afterwards for two reasons...it looks tacky to start painting after the party has paid you and to then take $$ from surrounding parties, AND you would then be busking or vending according to many parks/public areas without permission. This has been my experience but you may want to double check. Hope that helps!

I don't know about liability but I used paper bracelets for the kids so adjacent kids wouldn't just come and join in...

Am in the US--but a glitch for an event in a park is sometimes who participates...seems without logistics of some sort, you get stragglers who are not part of the event. Asking them individually sometimes helps...but if they have wristbands, or a volunteer can verify them...

Nope, don't have to do anything if painting at a private party in a park. If it's under a marquee or something (like in a popular botanic garden where they have a lot of weddings etc), it is the party planner's job to book it out and get permission from the Council to use it. If it's a regular park party where they are using the public picnic tables and BBQ, no permissions are necessary. My only concern would be finding a water source because sometimes the park taps require a tap key to operate. I'd take my own supply of water just in case.

Fantastic advice you guys!!! Thanks so much. Apparently she has the only pavillion in the park booked, so we should be all good to go then. Love the idea of ID'g the kids somehow, ta.
Kim, I never would have thought of other people approaching me to paint for other possible parties afterwards! Probably won't happen, but sooo good to have some kind of idea of how to handle it. Thank you!

They've all covered it.
It is the client's responsibility to ensure I can work in the venue (there are some places that won't let me in - hair salon that has their own make-up artist for weddings for example).
Face painting usually isn't a problem unless they are in a public place like a park - you need to make sure that they, the client, has some way to indicate who you should be painting. Stickers, wristbands, hand stamps or just a list of names that you can check off...
I can't tell you the number of times I've painted kids that were NOT part of the booked group!

its not your problem.. it the people who booked. In my council you can have a party in a council park for free, but if you want to BOOK the area exclusively there is a cost involved
