Glitter Holographic or Iridescent?
I've mainly stuck to a few types of glitter for face painting. The other day I saw the most beautiful sparkly glitter used by another face painter. I don't know what she used but I want some.
Any ideas or suggestions about holographic or iridescent glitters?

The are pretty similar really.
Frankly, glitter is glitter to me. Opaque colours are best for glitter tatts, irridescent/holographic are better for dusting.
For specific projects I'll pick something specific but for regular face painting... I refill from my stash which is a wide assortment - some are labelled but a lot isn't.

I mainly use the iridescent when I have a big party or event. Sometimes if it is a bit slower I will use the individual colors that I had bought from Icing in the mall. I'm a bit bummed, though - I didn't see them on my last trip. maybe as we get closer to the holidays? BTW it is body and face glitter, so SAFE.

Jen, I love Icing! I will pick some up for you if I find it I loved the neon rainbows you did at Oktoberfest with that glitter. Your work really stood out beautifully.
Re: Glitter Holographic or Iridescent?
I have found some cosmetic glitter at the drugstore, Wet n Wild put all thier glitter eyshadow powder on clearance, then I had coupons from the store, so I bought all they had for pennies. I turned out to be really good for face painting, and it has lasted me since last spring, and I still have plenty in a poofer bottle. I think this one would be considered irridescent. I will look at the Icings here...good ideas for alternative buying!

I loved whatever Otter Girl was using because it took on the colors of the paint...It was pretty cool. Maybe she can tell us what kind it was.

When I started FPing I bought alllll these different glitter colors, then I realized the only one i ever use is iridescent pearl (or iridescent white). It goes well on any color of paint and gives a nice sparkle without looking all "thick". I was using Sally girl becase its cheap but I found a nice size tub of it in the makeup section of my local drugstore for $3 and bought it. I can't wait to order a 2 oz bag of it from Metina.... that oughtta last me a while!
Re: Glitter Holographic or Iridescent?
Does anyone know the actual difference between holographic and iridescent? Not sure which to get. I think holographic means it sparkles with other colors too... but then I'm not entirely sure. Anyone know for certain?

Re: Glitter Holographic or Iridescent?
I recently switched to iridescent white from holographic silver. I like it equally as well as my silver holographic glitter. The iridescent seems to pick up on the paint color around it. Holographic sparkles brighter colors regardless of the paint it is on.

Re: Glitter Holographic or Iridescent?
I think Misha is right. I think the holographic has well...a loose definition of holographic is that of having 3-dimensional quality, while iridescent is "displaying a spectrum of colours that shimmer and change due to interference and scattering as the observer's position". I think the holographic glitter, while still sheer enough to pick up background colors, has more of it's own color which yields a more prismatic effect while the iridescent colors have less of it's own color and is more of a chameleon.
I personally would love to take a bath in a vat of the fairy blue glitter that Metina sells here (iridescent). It's good enough to eat, snort, and shower with! Ever since I discovered it I've been treating my other glitters like red headed step children.

Lady Jayde, do you use the blue on everything regardless of color?? Do you have any photos that show the glitter well? I can't decide between 2 oz. of the white iridescent or 2 oz. of the fairy blue

I do use it on everything. In it's collective state it looks a pale glittery blue, but on the face it takes on the color of the background. Here is an older picture from last year...
Re: Glitter Holographic or Iridescent?
there is a differebce between them all
the metallics are your basic colors that offer full coverage (for tattoos)
iridescent - the glitter that is "see through" so you apply it on face paint and you can see the paint under the glitter .
Holographic are special effect but they are solid like metallic - its the kind of glitter that has a rainbow effect with brilliant colors in the sun light but it will not let you see the paint under it (if you apply a full area ) we call it laser glitter ..
if you ever want to read more abot the different type of glitter you can see it all here

i hope this helps !
