Re: Starting up christmas designs...
I've only been painting for a few months, so my designs aren't quite what I'd like them to be. The Jack Skellington is borrowed from Lisa Joy Young (I believe) and the butterfly is my own design
Re: Starting up christmas designs...
Love all the designs!
Katurah,
Love Rudolf and Santa on the forehead! Great designs.
Tammy,
Great work. I really like the ornament on the check.
Yvonne,
What a cool Jack/Christmas design. I may use this for inspiration. The butterfly is pretty awesome also.
Andrea,
So many great designs. I like your way of doing the grinch. And the teddy bear w/ scarf is very cute!
I cant believe Christmas is so soon! I wish I had more time for Christmas partys.

Re: Starting up christmas designs...
I got all my face paint in the mail yesterday, so I have been playing. Here is my first face paint I did.
Re: Starting up christmas designs...
I was at a big event this weekend but was not painting myself. There was a group of facepainters there (about 6) - I didn't even get to see them up close or get a name, but every single child I saw had cheek art that was outstanding. I realized that every design was finely outlined with black - every one had silver or gold glitter - and every one if small like holly or a small snow man, had a background color to make it pop and make it look twice as large...it was truly amazing and simple how those 3 things combined made every child look like they had spent 15 mins. in the chair, when it most likely was 1 or 2 mins. tops. The host kept telling the crowd to make sure to visit the 'World Class" face painters because they were creating amazing designs - he was right! Just an observation I thought I would share. I see some great designs here on these pages. Very inspiring.
Re: Starting up christmas designs...
Love all the designs. So many snowmen and rudolph designs each different from the other. The eye and mask designs are beautiful too.
Re: Starting up christmas designs...
So many marvellous designs here!!!! Thanks so much to everyone for sharing!! Love the Grinch Andrea! And Katurah, those are the cutest reindeer! So many fabulous designs here to get inspiration from!
Yes Veelux... I am a very new face painter and there's nothing I love more than to watch a talented face painter at work... they make it look so easy and don't seem to have any nerves at all!!! Every stroke perfection!! I am in awe of them as I can't ever see myself getting to that standard.. ah well.. keep on practising, that's my motto!!
Living in Australia, I thought I'd make up an Aussie koala design...

Re: Starting up christmas designs...
Ambercat, I completely understand. I feel the exact same! way. your koala bear is simply adorable!
Re: Starting up christmas designs...
I think this is a great Koala and you did a fantastic job. I wish you could see my first two months of face painting. I struggled so much with teardrops alone and many other strokes that we need as face painters. Then one day it felt like someone turned on a light bulb in my head and I got it. But there is still more to it than great teardrops and I am working on it. Even when I was ready to start painting at parties or festivals I knew that I was going to get better. Practice makes perfect, well no one except a few face painters are perfect with the exception of Marc Reid (but he has been face painting for 10 years) and very few others. My neighbor kept saying it's time to invest in business cards and a banner. I was reluctant and rightly so. I knew that in a few months time I would hate the pics. on that banner and cards because I would get better. I finally let her make my cards and banner and send it to the printer. Well I used that banner once and threw it in the garbage. I then had something cheap printed up at Vistaprints so I could have a banner at the festivals I had applied for. I also had to use those horrible business cards until the new ones came in. Then I was so busy this year that I did not have time to get to a local printer for my cards and banner until 3 weeks ago. What I mean by this is next month you will see improvement and every month after that one. It happens to all of us. I know I have a long road ahead to the day that I will be satisfied with my work, but all we can do is practice and love what we do. Your work is great now. So just think what it will be like by spring. It is not that far away.ambercat wrote:So many marvellous designs here!!!! Thanks so much to everyone for sharing!! Love the Grinch Andrea! Happy Painting
And to Andrea and Katurah your designs are beautiful as well. I haven't even painted a reindeer yet. As for Daisy she is almost at the level of perfection, what more can I say about Daisy except your fantastic.

Re: Starting up christmas designs...
Here is one more try. I was doing fine with downloading pics. last week and now I have forgotten.
OK it came out. I am not sure how a penguin fits into Christmas but Santa lives at the North Pole and there must be penguins there. The next will be a tree.

Re: Starting up christmas designs...
Great detail on the snowman and penguin!
I did a Christmas HK similar to this pic last night. I did the bow in a leaf splitcake w/green glitter and the nose with red/pink/white splitcake w/red glitter. Then added snowflakes, dots and fairy dust. Lips were red w/red glitter. Have to say it was the prettiest HK I've done. Wish I could show a pic, but it was at the Crisis Center and they didn't want pics take for security reasons.

Re: Starting up christmas designs...
Everyone's designs are so wonderful! Glad to get so much inspiration from this post, I was really having a hard time with designs for the holidays (let alone BOY holiday designs) and am really happy to see all your lovely work!
Re: Starting up christmas designs...
I just love this design Tineke it is beautiful. I don't do Christmas but love the designs. And the HK design is nice too. ReRe I am one of the Goodbye HK's. So it is not about your painting just me and a few others. It's a thread you might find interesting.

Thank you!
I normally don't do Christmas designs either, I just painted my face quickly today for the Christmas card I'm sending to my corporate customers
Re: Starting up christmas designs...
That is painting quickly?! I'm so jealous. It is beautiful! And gypsy, that little penguin is to-die-for cute

I didn't have much time, and won't have any time before new year as well, so I had to do this while my daughter was at swim training. Painting my face took about 10 minutes, trying to take a decent picture of myself took longer :p
I don't like pictures, never know what face to make, so it took about 30 tries to get one where I didn't look grumpy/tired/angry/sad or didn't have a double chin

I I'm even more impressed. I have such a hard time painting on myself and I think your picture is beautiful. You look serene and happy.
Re: Starting up christmas designs...
I wish I could paint my own face but I cannot because I wear glasses. I can't see well without them. I use to be able to read the phone-book or a tiny medicine bottle label then at 40 and every year after that my vision went south. I have a magnifying mirror but it is too small, 5 inches round. I would love to be able to practice a design on myself. Yes, I wish I had my young eyes. So I too envy that. Also my sons are men and I don't have anyone to practice on but the top of my legs. Jeez!!!

Re: Starting up christmas designs...
Well that christmas tree is beautiful. Is that the 3d leaf? I wear glasses too, since I was twelve, so I understand your pain. I'm just lucky my kids love to be painted.
