I just exploded Paint in the Microwave!
I had a crumbly black and thought I remembered someone saying you could spray and zap to make it softer-- but then I got sidetracked and went to stir the chilli... and take a taste test... and add more garlic... Maybe that part wasn't in the instructions? because I now have NO black paint for the weekend, have a house that is filled with smoke (that smells like someone electrocute my grandma!), and I'm not exactly sure if the microwave will continue to work or not. Ok, so what do I win?

Oh no! That darn chili will get you every time...how long did you put it in for? Any time I've zapped my paints, it's 7 seconds, tops - usually about 4.

Oh No! I did that once with snaz. . .I put it in for 10 seconds and walked away, and it was bubbling. That one was okay after it cooled off, but it didn't literally explode or catch on fire.
I'm so sorry
I'm so sorry

Thank-you for sacrificing your micowave for science!
Now we all know - do not put in micro wave and stir chilli..... I mean they should really put this on the label!

Re: I just exploded Paint in the Microwave!
Oh I could have told you that!!
I put my wolfe white in because it was soo goopy!
I only put it in a fraction of what I had been told and as soon as it started smelling I pulled it out.
It was too late though, my house stunk for weeks, the plastic had melted and the paint was burnt and crumbly
I tell you what though.. I scraped off the brown bits and added a little water and still use it when I am painting at home... it is by far my favourite white to use now!!
It still smells a little and I am not quite brave enough to use it on other people but at home it is great.

Re: I just exploded Paint in the Microwave!
I melted the container- and I'm certain it all caught fire (scorch marks as evidence!) The actual paint now resembles a pile of ash. And my house stinks SO much! No ribbon for me in this chilli cookoff..... There's a lesson in this somewhere
Re: I just exploded Paint in the Microwave!
Stooopid Chili..........
OK.... so you have to time this right but it works pretty good for crumbly dry paint and it's pretty gentle.... Next time you run your dishwasher.... turn off the "heated dry" when it reaches the end put your open pot of paint on a cookie tray.... open the dishwasher....(not for long because you want the hot moisture to stay inside the dishwasher) set the cookie sheet with the open pots of paint on the top rack on top of the glasses and wait........ oh try 20 minutes or 1/2 hour..... take the paints out and mush them all back together. ( I do this treatment before I make my rainbow cakes.) It makes the makeups really malliable.
Not good for goopy paints............

i did it one time too..i was watching it and I think glitter must of gotten in my paint boy did the house smell for a while
Re: I just exploded Paint in the Microwave!
Sorry to hear about your black paint but thanks for sharing. I will definately think twice about doing that. Reminds me of how I almost blew up my house with an exploding potatoe when microwaves first came into existance. Ooops! telling my old age!
Re: I just exploded Paint in the Microwave!
, and
Didn't labels warn of the danger of stiring the chili while you're heating your paints in a microwave? INCONCEIVABLE.

Re: I just exploded Paint in the Microwave!
Okay, I think you'll appreciate this... I did kinda the opposite of what you did the other day. I was playing with my brand new practice head (from Wimex Beauty) and totally forgot about the hard boiled eggs I was cooking on the stove.
Needless to say, I heard these loud pops coming from the kitchen and went to investigate and was nearly pummeled with hard boiled egg shrapnel. The eggs were literally flying out of the pan around the kitchen. The pan was really burned....but it's a Martha Stewart stainless steel (which was "a good thing") and came clean with some elbow grease.
Love my new practice head, though!!! Hate cooking anyway...

Goopy Wolfe paints are from too much water in them. We get some real soupy stuff during the super humid summers here. What they need is a dehumidifier to take the moisture out. Set whatever icky Wolfe paints in front of a dehumidifier and it'll be good as new, well almost as good. And also if the paints are dry and crumbly (still totally workable ) then you can add small amounts of glycerin, but that is more effort than needed.
Re: I just exploded Paint in the Microwave!
LOL! I can't help you there(I've had a few smoking moments, but no explosions). But, thank you for the great laugh & I love that we can learn from each other's blunders
FYI... Some paints do spark in the microwave...

Re: I just exploded Paint in the Microwave!
I've microwaved snaz before and it's not dry and broken but can't get it to be not mushy. Was trying to liven up some half used dried out cakes to make split cakes.
Re: I just exploded Paint in the Microwave!
I think someone might have hit it spot on. Glitter, even a little, will wreak havoc in the microwave. Might be blind, but I'm not seeing it....how long WAS the paint in the microwave?

Re: I just exploded Paint in the Microwave!
Ok, now that everyone's lamented the ruined paint, I have some advice for the icky smell.
1) Plug in a crock pot and fill the crock with water and a few tablespoons of baking soda. Leave it uncovered overnight. That'll help absorb the yucky odor.
2) Take some bread, put it into a bowl. Fill bowl 1/2 full with vinegar. When we had a fire last year (at the time it was a major catastrophe, but now it's at the point where we are almost able to laugh), that REALLY helped get rid of the smoke smell.
3) After trying the crock pot with baking soda smell for 1-2 nights, fill the crock again with water. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. In the morning, the house will smell like essence of (lavendar, citrus, vanilla, almond, etc) rather than burnt paint.
If microwave still works --
Fill a microwavable cup with water. Put it into the microwave and (STAY CLOSE) let the water steam up the microwave. Then take some dishsoap and a sponge and start attacking the gunk.
