Post by teelastinton Sat Sep 10, 2011 12:53 am

Hey all,

my small business is new and im australian. I have been approached by a day care facility here in doing a basics class and was wondering if anyone knew whether there are legalities, standards or requirements, certificates other than pre existing ability with the basics for this.????

Any help would be appreciated but for most from those in australia!!!

PLEASE HELP

Thanks so much guys,
Teela

Teaching can be pretty tricky. You don't want to teach someone & a week later they buy everything they need & become your competition. I always decline teaching gigs in my working area. If I did teach it would only be the very basics(safe paint, clean kit & a boy & girl design).
I get lots of requests locally to teach & my answer is, "It isn't that I don't want to teach, but that I don't have time to teach. I'm the mom of 5 kids, care for an ailing parent, am married, run a full time business & am very active in my church. I really have to manage my time well & there's nowhere in my week to add teaching classes."

I'm sorry Teela, I don't have any clue about the legal side of doing things in Australia.

Some suggestions for the class would be;

getting some basic snazaroo kits and making sure that there's your favourite form of hygiene (peroxide/soap/vinegar/?) on hand so that you can talk about the foundational importance of having safe products to use - both in using face paints designed for face painting and in cleanliness and no cross-contamination.

Maybe make up some simple face painting designs they can aspire to, copied on paper you hand out... and have them practice tear drops, swirls, dots etc. beforehand. Double loading brushes is also a fun thing to learn and effective and simple to do.

I agree with Linda that you might be enabling the competition, so do be aware of that - how many face painters can your area realistically handle.
