Great Idea For Those Of You That Work Fairs And Festivals
hey you guys,...i had the chance to paint at a fair with cindy yee, and rebecca s. recently ...it was so fun working with them;) thanks girls!!!
these photos were taken at the fair, they are 3-5 min faces....painted with arty brush cakes...
but, the great idea we had, was to put up a photo op area.
we put up a red panel, had a small table with a mirror and basket of head pieces...so, parents could take pictures of their kids....before all of the make up melts off in the heat.
i would say 90% of parents took advantage of the photo op area!
even the event director came by, and said that people had come to her, to tell her how much they liked, and appreciated the photo area ?!
just sharing....and, of course, thanks to mark reid...the inspiration for the tiger. painted with an arty cake;)
we were lucky, we had 3 painters and a 20x10 corner booth...so, we had the space for a photo area.
but, it really is a great idea for those of you that do fairs and festivals;)
i'll post more pictures on my face book page;)
we did have one head piece walk off...but, oh well...

Very cool! Did you charge for the photos? Do you email them to the momma's or do they take them themselves? Love the designs! Thanks for sharing the ideas! My little balloon twister gets tired of twisting, this might be something she could do for a change!
Re: Great Idea For Those Of You That Work Fairs And Festivals
we just had parents take their own photos.
but, when i had a tea party biz, we would take the childs picture, print it on site with a portable photo printer (about 100.00)...
put the pic in a frame, and it was the child's party favor.
wow!
you know...that's a great idea! so many parent's only had their phone...i'm sure they would pay 5-8 dollars for a pic of their child in a frame with your logo on it!!
we may do that next year!
we'd have to hire an extra person...but, it was a huge hit

had to include a couple of pics from my tea party days.

Wow! Great idea! TFS!
I LOVE the Arty Cake in the first mask, especially! What is the name of that one? (Need it for my wish-list!)
It's hard to imagine sometimes how they'll look when used. The plain swatches don't do them justice sometimes. Seeing this one in action has me SOLD! It's dramatic, impressive, and stunning!

Re: Great Idea For Those Of You That Work Fairs And Festivals
Awesome photos!
I love the idea, I have been wanting to do something similar myself, Its nice to see someone else do it and have it be successful! I love the idea of adding in the accessories!
I plan to do it at birthdays (where I have a little more time) and charge $5 for each kids photo, which I will then send to the party host on a disk all edited.
I have a portable photo printer and had thought of printing them all off there and then, but then I am to scared to print them off without editing.

Re: Great Idea For Those Of You That Work Fairs And Festivals
Great idea...do you have a picture of the photo set up?...I do theme parties for girls...only i called it glamour girl party...doing fancy eyes....playing with nail polish, necklaces, boas, etc...then I take their picture and frame them...and it goes to each girl...that is their party favor!...and I also do craft birthday parties for girls....they choose either galllery glass...painting....cards...etc....and they can add face painting to it...and/or glitter tattoos....I am just getting started in all this...have done a few here and there...and decided to get serious about the girl parties....why not have fun... so I would LOVE to see your photo shot set up....and someday when I figure it out...I will post pictures...I have a bunch to post...just need to figure this all out!...may have to get my 11 year old granddaughter to help me...
Re: Great Idea For Those Of You That Work Fairs And Festivals
Really nice designs, love the colors. The photo op is a great idea, although I'd do one thing differently. From working at an elementary school I've learned to never let children share hats or hair accessories of any kind. Why? Lice! Ewwww

We team up with the local camera store - then they have the diff backdrops, lights, good cameras, tripods, printers, as well as people - oh and pay us to be there to give people a reason to want their picture taken......

Re: Great Idea For Those Of You That Work Fairs And Festivals
thanks guys,
here is my link on face book...
https://www.facebook.com/#!/media/albums/?id=643069436
i didn't take a pic of the set up;(
let me ask the other gals if one of them took pics.
we used a clothes rack from target
http://www.target.com/p/Portable-Garment-Rack/-/A-12227224?reco=Rec_pdp_12227224_ClickCP_Adjacency
had a seamstress sew a seam alng the top of the red fabric...so, we could slide the top rod through the fabric
next to that, we had a small draped table, with a basket full of head pieces, and a mirror.
we made a small sign saying "photo-op" and hung it at the very top with ribbon. we also had a short stool, so the child could sit.
as soon as the child was painted, even before getting paid...i would direct them and their parent to the photo area...and, i would start painting the next person in line
when they were done taking pics...the parent would come back and pay me
i think the photo experience speeded up the line, and increased tips;)

I've actually wanted to set up a photo booth w/ photo printer for festivals. We did it a few years ago for our churches Special needs Easter Egg Hunt & it was a hit. Keep in mind, it took forever for the photos to print(for 2 hours straight) & they were still printing photos after the event was all over(and this was w/ 3 printers going). I was thinking of doing it, but having the parents give you their contact info & then sending them the pics in the mail. I bet you could charge $10 or more per photo...
Re: Great Idea For Those Of You That Work Fairs And Festivals
Amazing idea! Linda, I was just thinking about how great it would be to give people tickets (of course after they pay for the pic) and just have them come back to the booth with their ticket before they left the event.. kinda like the way they do at the big shot theme parks... just a thought!
I'm loving that mask!!!

Re: Great Idea For Those Of You That Work Fairs And Festivals
This is such a cute idea! I can't wait to try it! I've got another larger mirror area set up with a small table with business cards. This would be great to add by that! And it would help stop the parents from taking pictures while the kid is still in my chair. I might have to try this at my next big event. I've got one on the 18th where I'm bringing my tent and everything so I might try it there before I go to my next festival! Thanks!!!! BTW love your pics
Re: Great Idea For Those Of You That Work Fairs And Festivals
I love this idea, but as a one woman show, I'm not going to be printing pix. BUT I wonder if my husband is there or even if I take 4 seconds and do it myself, if it would be good marketing to take a photo, give them my info/business card, and tell them to go to a website (a private site from random viewing) and have them ask for thier kids pic! This way they can use the area, or get one from you! either free of charge (drives customers to your site, you now have a contact email, ask if you can send them promotional materials and then do so very sparingly like once every 2 months AND you can ask them if they mind you using thier stunningly adorable kid for your portfolio).
You coud even charge them a minimal amount for the pix and have them paypal you the cash....
Really tired....rambling.....BUT still seeing much potential and love love love the idea! THANKS so much for sharing!!!

Re: Great Idea For Those Of You That Work Fairs And Festivals
I just adore this idea! i have a professional camera and should really put it to use, but im flying solo at the moment, so its hard to get photos when also painting. but maybe setting something like this up and saying to the parents i would love an emailed copy to promote, im sure their would be plenty of parents that would love to help out! thankyou so much for this idea! im going to brainstorm away now.
Re: Great Idea For Those Of You That Work Fairs And Festivals
Well I have spent yesterday and today sewing up a storm to have mine ready for tomorrow. I will take some pics later to show you how I have done mine (FYI it sure isn't perfect lol)

Re: Great Idea For Those Of You That Work Fairs And Festivals
How it stand with all the layers of fabric in the front - not the most perfectly lined up lol
Showing the different colours and prints I chose to use (will probably add a few more as I aquire them)
View with all the colours at the back (great as the black is a bit sheer, so it helps any light trying to sneak through)
My first quick kitty (thanks LJY!) and I love how much better my pics look now!
Thanks OP for sharing this with us, I cant wait till tomorrow now, to see the reactions!
Edited to add: excuse my *ahem* dusty treadmill!
