Cutting out some of the bulk
This forum is really great. I love amount of different painters who participate at this site.
But I noticed today at another site, that they prefer that people do NOT give congrats and kudos
to everyone who enters a contest. They said it cuts down the time (and space) to look at all the entries.
I would have to agree. It really depends on the format of each site. Here the photos on the left take
quite a bit of space, so when someone just says "great job!" - it takes up a couple of inches. Multiply
that times the amount of entries and you have lots of space that we don't need. Sometimes we have
close to 20 pages to look through when the entries might only take half that amount.
Please don't see me as a negative person. This site is great and I do love compliments. But some pages
are nothing more than JUST compliments. We can praise the winners at the end!

Re: Cutting out some of the bulk
While I agree scrolling can be pain in the rear - especially if you are on your phone veiwing it - I think sometimes people want to say how they really like certain aspects of a design rather then just commend the winners.
Sometimes someone will do something very clever with the theme that changes the whole way I had thought about it. Or used a technique that was unfamiliar to me.
I would say send them pm but my inbox is already at like 94% full so I don't think pming is the way to go.
We really need a 'like' button.. or a thumbs up icon so we can let a person know how we feel without making the forum cluttered.
I thin there is a barely used rating system attached to our profiles gallery so if you are viewing someones work you can rate it.....
Something like that attached to the bottom of any post with a pic or video or slideshow would really help.
That said this is a technical issue that is fraught with complexity for Metina to have to deal with. Whether she would think it was worth it or not... dunno.
( Personal my laptop pad scrolls by just touching my finger on the edge so it's really not a problem for me at all).

Re: Cutting out some of the bulk
I love this forum because it is so supporting besides the great work people are showing. There are many sites where you can watch pics of great designs, but what I miss there is the chatting. That is a difference and that is why I am member of this site. It has been said many times that this forum feels so friendly. I would miss that when only pics are posted.
When this other site you talk about already exists, why want to make this site also that way? People that don't like that many posts have the opportunity to go to the other forum. Just my 2cents

Re: Cutting out some of the bulk
I do get what you mean about it taking more space and if it were just about competing then I'd agree that praise and supportive comments (or helpful suggestions) might not be the best idea - however, one of the things I enjoy about this forum is that it is supportive - both in ideas and compliments - both things sorely needed sometimes by other people who understand you, because they share the same passion.
Re: Cutting out some of the bulk
I *hate* scrolling through "good job"s. That said, this forum *is* different from the others, and this one of the key differences - more support. And I like that, and am thus cheerfully willing to scroll through all the "atta boys"
Re: Cutting out some of the bulk
You know what is funny....
As I am scrolling through the goodjobs I am huffing and puffing and sighing and then FINALLY getting to the next picture before I rinse and repeat
buuuttt...
I must say I love it when I get that pat on the back (even if i don't deserve it... so nice!)
In the end supportive>scrolling
Besides, in the end metina organizes them all in one place for you. No need to page dive !!!

I the support and encouragement here, it's why I'm here after all - to chat and learn from and with other people who share the same passion.
