My local parks and rec asked me to paint at a fundraiser benefit that they are having for one of their employees who has cancer. They asked what I needed and I told them a $40 fee to cover materials and permission to put out my tip jar. The way she jumped on it real fast made me think I left money on the table. What do you usually ask for in a situation like this?

I charge a discounted hourly rate. $40 an hour sounds more reasonable but still a bit low. I would do $50 an hour with tip jar.

my discounted rates are about 20% off .... ish? I have a chart that I quote from where I rounded it off to even dollar amounts. Or I offer to do PPF and they get 30% of whatever I make.

Did you tell her a $40.00 fee???? or did you tell her $40.00 per hour? I think you need to make sure you were clear on what you meant, because it sounds as though she thinks you are doing it for just $40 bucks ....which in that case who wouldn't jump on it. I know I would.
