Working a Fundraiser... Empty Working a Fundraiser...

Post by Amanda Mon Oct 11, 2010 10:57 am

So I met a local football legend thismorning in a Dunkin Donuts parking lot! He saw the magnetic sign on my car. Smile Well he works with a local organization to raise money for medical research by doing appearances at different places and signing autographs and all that. He is interested in having me come to events with him to face paint and help raise money. Do any of you work with charities like this? I'm not sure how to do it... I explained that most of the time someone hires me for a set amount of time and I paint people for free, but I can also charge to paint people and donate a portion to the charity (although I've never done it before). I definitely think this is a good opportunity and also a great cause (as this particular illness has been plaguing my family for years) but it sounds like he wants me to be a regular and I need to make it at least somewhat worth my time! I told him my hourly rate, but said for charity I would take half that. Should I push maybe having me as part of the entertainment and he or the venue pays me? Or should I do PPF and then donate a portion to the charity at the end of the day? Any advice would be helpful!

If the charity has a celebrity representing them, I'm sure they have enough money budgeted to pay you by the hour. I don't think he would expect you to attend events on a regular basis without being compensated fairly. It sounds like a great opportunity, and I'm sure it will bring you more business. I would definitely have them pay you by the hour, because you will not make enough money PPF to cover your supplies. Good luck to you and happy painting!
