Re: Stolen Pics again...
I've been baffling about this one today. I've decided that what bugs me is not that he didn't steal any of my pics (one day I will be good enough to be stolen )
It's the arrogance of it. To just assume that because you can click and save a picture that you can paint/replicate it. If they can replicate it they would have done so and taken their own pictures surely? Otherwise it just makes for unhappy customers when they realise you can't cut it. Which is stupid because repeat business and word of mouth business is where its at.
And this guy KNOWS stealing is wrong cause he made the pics on his site impossible to steal. Like seriously. WTF?
I just can't believe how often this happens. It baffles me.

Re: Stolen Pics again...
Like you all I have lots to say about the all kinds of wrong going on here......but what I would really like to know is, if he made it impossible to steal pictures on his site......how do you do that?? Does anyone out there know how we can do this on our sites so we can try to stop this from happening? Just curious since I'm in the throws of making up a site at the mo!! Ta
BTW I'm technically challeged!! So if it's too complicated, well, forget it. lol.

Re: Stolen Pics again...
I don't understand what you guys mean by making it impossible to steal. When I clicked on the individual picture, it came up large in the centre section. I was then able to right-click the larger image and view it directly, or save it if I wanted to. I did save the one that I thought looked a little like Ashley (my apologies to the artist, as I can't give proper credit to whoever did paint this):
Anyway, it's good that the facepainting pages are gone. Looking at the body art pics, I'm guessing that they are their own work - many of them have the same background, at least one of which is definitely an airbrushing place that also does t-shirts & such (the tiger face one, you can see stencils and designs in the background similar to the t-shirt designs). What I wonder about is... are they using skin-safe airbrush paints or just the same paints that they do the t-shirts and license plates with!?!? But that's a whole different issue, of course.

Re: Stolen Pics again...
For those who are web savy, if you would like to know a way to make it HARDER (Nothing makes it impossible) for somone to steal pics from your web site here is one way. Note, this will ONLY be meaningful to those who know their CSS web lingo... but you can share with your web designer if you have one.
Create a 2X2 transparent PNG or any image format that supports transparency.
Take the actual image you want people to see, and put it AS A BACKGROUND IMAGE into a div or P that is same size as pic (or if using tables, into the table cel.)
Next, put the transparent png, sized to the same size as your picture, in the DIV, P or CEL ON TOP OF the background image.
Now, if someone clicks, right clicks or does SAVE on the "Image" they will be stealing an impercetible small transparent picture of nothing.
Also, have your pictures live on a seperate folder in your web structure, and make that folder Hot Link Disabled- This will prevent people from using LINKS to your pictures, which steals your bandwidth.
Again, I know this will be gibberish to some, but if you have someone who helps you with your site, or if you are web savy, maybe it will be handy.

Someone's legal department musta scared them... Nothing for me this morning either.
I am learning how to protect myself if and when I build my own site someday, that's for sure. First lesson...give credit where credit is due, second..watermark!

Re: Stolen Pics again...
That's some good points there, Leapinglizards! I'm doing an overhaul to my site and I'll probably be doing that.
Though, the only way to guarantee no one taking your work off the 'net, don't put it up.
I just rather credit where credit is due. I actually had someone ask me if my own work was mine because they saw it on someone else's site. *le sigh*

Re: Stolen Pics again...
I get asked all the time by people "are all these photos of your work" or "Did you paint all of these?"
I've even got a sign on my display saying that all the photos are of faces I painted!

Shannon, doesn't it seem kind of funny to be asked that, it's almost as if people in general have become accustomed to misrepresentation and false advertising. I am sometimes asked, "Can you do this one?" while pointing at a picture of a design I painted. When I say, yes of course, I painted all of the designs in the pictures, people seem quite amazed. It's kind of ... odd.
Re: Stolen Pics again...
Yeah. I think they are used to the "volunteer" painters with the display of ripped up book pages and images printed off the internet. [sigh]

It's not the same thing, but I've been a vendor at art boutiques selling painted glass for awhile now. I have a sign saying that all my stuff is hand painted by me. Almost EVERY SINGLE PERSON asks me one of the following questions:
1) Are these hand-painted?
2) Oh, wait, so did you make this vase? What about this mug? Did you also do the paint on the cake plate?
3) Do you use a stencil to paint?
And just once I want to reply, "Nono. This table full of custom hand painted glassware was secretly mass produced by machines in China."

Re: Stolen Pics again...
LOL!! Yes, mee too! and I have said that under my breath too.
In a way I am happy that I will probably never have my pics ripped off...lol... but then again I think to myself, Its a bummer that I am not good enough to get ripped off... LOL...
Most of the time people bring me pics and ask if I can paint them. I don't usually know where they come from, and they are 90% clip art... unless they ask for it to be specifically exactly the same, I usually add my own spin on it, or style.
I think that alot of these sites that have the you can't copy thing, have it because they themselves have either had problems with someone stealing and claiming their art etc, or that they themselves steal, and claim it. Bet you anything this site is the latter...

I don't understand why people don't realize they are going to get busted if you posting on the internet.
Why would you want to not show your own examples of work. It takes all kinds I guess.........
