Re: Locking a thread for sharing pics?
I have that cake too and it looks nothing like that. The blue is like midnight and the purple is really dark

Re: Locking a thread for sharing pics?
I posted a picture in my gallery. The purple is kind of small since it is small in the cake. (Can't figure how to post a picture here).

Re: Locking a thread for sharing pics?
I noticed that the ones complaining about this idea, are the ones that have under 100 posts. And you know what? Those people are now posting and participating.
I think having a place that opens after a minimum number of posts is a GOOD idea. And people don't have to know about it either, that way they don't feel left out and are pleasantly surprised when it happens. Earning trust is important. And if having the extra section is important to the new board member... well, they can work at it and earn it, like everything else in the world.

Re: Locking a thread for sharing pics?
daydreamer, yours is definitely different. My blue is a lot lighter. I just took a picture of my container, it is also in my album. Take a look. That's weird.

setting a post min. seems like we might be asking for a lot of arbitrary posts by people just so they can reach the min.
That's what came to mind for me as well. I've run a forum before and we had the problem with new members racking up their post counts by posting arbitrary posts that did nothing to add to the value of the forum. Needless to say, we had to fix the posting requirements so that arbitrary emoticon and text language posts were rejected. It made some people mad, but the majority found meaningful things to say.
I'm all for a private section where sharing can be done in safety. I like the idea of having to "earn" the privilege of access by adding something to this site. Unfortunately, it's getting cut-throat in the FP arena and as the stats indicate, the number of takers (especially those who don't want to be bothered with registering) are increasing in number.
Okay, off my soapbox... and back under my rock...

J, Hey mamasita. How are you? Hugs to you and the fam, and I hope all has been well.
I am all in for a members only section, just point me int he right direction and I am there.

Re: Locking a thread for sharing pics?
Back at you Tam, I'm just missing my face painting family! I can't believe it's going to be another freaking' 6 months before I can see anyone! I hear that Fabulaas is a No Go this year, which leaves CT. Please tell me that you and Angel are coming down for it in January!
Re: Locking a thread for sharing pics?
No FABBULAS this year???? Oh no, I hadn't heard. Oh wow I guess I will have to look for another convention to go to.
Any reason in particular as to why they are not doing FAB this year? PM me if you get a moment.

Re: Locking a thread for sharing pics?
Love the idea of a private section, and definitely on board with a minimum # of posts. I was on a forum years ago and there was a secret area that we were only allowed to refer to as...the purple something-or-other (yes, it's been that long, haha), and we had to request a password from an admin to gain access. (IE members of the hidden section don't refer to it as a secret/special whatever, but as a code word so it's not advertised/'taunting' for those not a part of it. Make sense? Too secretive?)
It took me a while to get the nerve to post, too, but I'm all for a give and take section instead of taketaketake everywhere, and would have understood that to access the VIP members section, I had to be a VIP member! 2 way street.
That said, I also agree with the emote/'LOL' only posts not 'counting' towards the post-count. If I see that someone only ever posts emotes etc and that's it, that sometimes drives me batty.

Bahaha - way to push my buttons
In jest? Sure. But if that's the only thing that member ever posts and I've never read a full sentence or anything...I know it's hard at the beginning, but I do feel that contribution has to happen - or else these forums don't work!

Re: Locking a thread for sharing pics?
Absolutely Kristal, if we didn't communicate with each other writing full sentences & sometimes paragraphs. This place wouldn't be the fun loving sharing place that it is. So to all those takers, your really missing out on not becoming part of the amazing co sharing atmosphere here. I get as much from reading everyone's posts as I do from writing a reply.
Re: Locking a thread for sharing pics?
Just had a look at the stats for this thread 112 have posted & 1502 have just looked. mmmm
Re: Locking a thread for sharing pics?
I llike the idea that Painted Dragon had- that the post is "hidden" untill you reach the prescribed # of posts, then it magically appears. So people wouldn't know that there was a section they had to rack up meaningless posts to get to- but when they did contribute to the posting it would be there as an unexpected reward.
Re: Locking a thread for sharing pics?
Of course I understand people who has been in this forum for years want their own private place for sharing pics and posts. Most of them are professional facepainters and painting is a business for them, so they´re afraid of competition and lurkers. However, I confess that I didn´nt feel good with this thread. I'm just a newbie in facepainting world and, as you can see, I'm just a "new member" in this forum, but when I sail on your galleries, when I take a look at your challenges and when I post a comment and then you answer me, I feel like a real part of this wonderful group and I love it. If I don´t post more comments is because of my difficulties with your language and if I don´t post my pics is... well it's because I'm still learning and (like I said in another post) I feel like the dumb class student. But I'll do it soon. Anyway, THANKS A LOT FOR SHARING YOUR TALENT AND ART.

Re: Locking a thread for sharing pics?
I'm one of the viewers and not a poster to this topic because I've been mulling it over.
I completely understand a VIP section and think that a target # of posts to access the forum is reasonable. However, I have been on forums before where once there was a VIP section, the public section just fizzeld out. I don't think that would happen here but it is a concern.
Also, since one of the original concerns was to basically know WHO would be reading this VIP section (ex: competitors), you still wouldn't really know. You would be protected from the general public/customers and lurkers but not a competitor that has joined the forum (which you may or may not be aware of). They also could always join at a later time and then take a peek at earlier posts. I just don't want anyone getting a false sense of security. (I'm a computer person by day and see it all the time.)
I do like the idea of a VIP section safe from the average customer searching about us though. Ok, back to my viewing platform .

Re: Locking a thread for sharing pics?
Mandi those stats are RIDICULOUS! I looked through some of the other posts practicing monsters has 132 views, but it only has 18 posts. So about 15% of viewers are posting (and that math might be wrong, oops).
But no joke, we are averaging somewhere around 7-15 percent of all viewers posting for the 'general face painting section'.
The 'new to facepainting section' is slightly lower, but it's not ridiculously empty. New website had 102 views, 10 replies. Painting lips had 203 views and 13 replies. And I pulled open the sections, newbies and experienced been-in-this-business-for-the-last-10-years people are responding.
This makes me less inclined to think that people would stop posting in 'gen' or in 'newbie'. Some rates might be lower, but I think we could keep decent conversation going.

Yes I do agree with what you have said although 112 comments to 1502 looks. Ok so if each one of the posts came back & viewed to read futher comments let's be generous & say 10 times each that still leaves roughly 400 looks with not comment

I finally tried mine out and it still doesn't look as nice as your Artsy - your blue turned out a lovely green in your avatar.
I also found the Pink and Purple on the ends impossible to get to - very frustrating!!!!! Give me a rectangular container anyday!
I will put a picture of the TAG neon so you can see what I mean.

Re: Locking a thread for sharing pics?
I have posted my first comment, and I just wanted to add that my keyboard has sadly broke (death by coffee spill) but I am so addicted to the forum that I am using my on-screen keyboard to type lol! I feel that the newbies will feel like they are missing out on knowledge you have given, but I still think this is a great idea! Even though I don't have the minimum post requirements. I love being able to talk with all other obsessed face painters, and instead of us newer members being discouraged by it I think we should look at it as something to look forward to... maybe helping to bring some of the "lurkers" out of their shell?
Re: Locking a thread for sharing pics?
Hi Aussie. I love your TAG rainbow cake. I know what you you mean by rectangular. Does anyone have a solution to this? I also like the fact that your Tag has orange on the end and purple in the middle.
And your Wolfe is exactly the same as mine. It might just look different on your screen, or my lighting was brighter when i took the pic. They are both the same.
