Is Wolfe really Diamond FX?
Can someone tell me if Wolfe is pretty much the SAME in color, mixabiltiy and coverage at Diamond FX?
I bought the Klutz Face Paint book and it came with a palette that I think was Wolfe but heard from somewhere that wolfe bros teamed up with Diamond FX / OR is this just not so?

Re: Is Wolfe really Diamond FX?
Wolfe brand of paint is NOT the Wolfe Bros. They USED to be associated but severed the relationship several years ago. They had given their name to the brand when it started up so the company still uses it and they can't stop it.
Then they became associated with DFX which is, essentially, the same paint (same factory in China and only very minor differences in the actual product). They demo for DFX and promoted it for a time.
I'm not sure what brands they are "representing" now as I've heard that they were using and promoting other brands at FABAI this year.
Wolfe, DFX and TAG all come from the same manufacturer in China... they are similar in consistency and ingredients (meaning it is a high wax base paint) but each "brand" has slight variations in colours, sizes, etc.
I have found there is very little difference between Wolfe and DFX but they keep tweeking things so one purchase to another there can be minor changes in how they work.

The company in China is also producing products for many face paint companies that are exclusive to that company. Many face painters that sell paint have created their own store brand this way. I've not tried any of these yet.
Re: Is Wolfe really Diamond FX?
The reps of TAG, DFX and Wolfe all say there are differences.
The main differences I know about is that Wolfe uses more perfumes, that DFX. TAG has more split cakes than either of the other two.

Re: Is Wolfe really Diamond FX?
I jut took a class with the Wolfe Bros at FABAIC and they said that Wolfe, DFX and Tag are all made in the same place just with slightly different ingredients. They also said they have represented Wolfe, DFX and now they are representing Superstar....
Re: Is Wolfe really Diamond FX?
Say, thanks for replies!! I loved using the pallet that came with the KLUTZ book and thought it was Wolfe FX and bought an Essentials pallet. The yellow and white do not seem to give teh same coverage as the paint that came with the Klutz book...
AND I thought TAG was an Aussie company, but manufacturing always seems to find its way back to China!

Re: Is Wolfe really Diamond FX?
Coming on here to find out about the differences between Wolfee and DFX and I want to thank you all for helping with my question. Now I know it's all basicly the same.
Sad that it's true about it all seems to wind up in China.

Re: Is Wolfe really Diamond FX?
if people anywhere else in the world were willing to work for $2/hr, I'm sure companies would gladly move their manufacturing somewhere equally as affordable as the labour is in China.
Re: Is Wolfe really Diamond FX?
I think the Wolfe has a nicer overall consistency, a little waxier than dfx & tag. I definitely notice a quality difference.
Re: Is Wolfe really Diamond FX?
LOVE the klutz/wolf paints but sadly am running out and I am ready to move on to creating my own palette. I wanted Wolf but your store here had a great deal on the DFX, I always heard good things about DFX so I can't wait for it to come and and I can see for myself the differences.
Re: Is Wolfe really Diamond FX?
DFX, Wolfe, TAG, Fazmataz and Cameleon all come out of the same factory in China.
DFX, Wolfe, TAG and Fazmataz all are very similar, and are wax based. If you like one, you will probably like the others.
I have not yet tried it, but if I understand correctly, Cameleon added more glycerin to the wax recipe. It is a hybrid, like Global.
The paints that have MUCH more glycerin, are Paradise and FAB/Superstar. They are easier to blend, but don't go over other colors as strongly are the wax based paints.
Paradise (Mehorn) is made all in the USA. Wolfe and Faz purchase their paint from China, but are owned by USA companies. The rest purchase from that China factory, but the owner companies are in other countries, so it goes there first, then to the USA.

Re: Is Wolfe really Diamond FX?

brighter colors? (ears perk up). i am aware of graftobian, but noticed it is quite expensive and i couldn't find info on ingredients.
do you happen to know what the ingredients are? also, how is it for linework and details?

Re: Is Wolfe really Diamond FX?
DFX, Wolfe, TAG, Fazmataz and Cameleon all come out of the same factory - Lucky - in China.
Global is also made in China, but they say not from the Lucky factory.
Wolfe and Faz purchase their paint from China, but are owned by USA companies. The rest purchase from China factory, but the owner companies are in other countries, so it goes to those companies first, then to the USA.
I have heard that Wolfe now sends their paint from China, to a factory in Mexco, so they can say "Made in North America." I only heard that from one source, so maybe, maybe not.
Paradise (Mehorn) and Ruby Red are made all in the USA.
FAB/Superstar is made in the Netherlands.

Re: Is Wolfe really Diamond FX?
I feel very confused whenever I read anything regarding the manufacture of wax based paint...so Wolfe, DFX, Tag and Cameleon all come from the same factory in China and are all very similar in formula?
When I started painting a year ago, I started with a 10 gram starter DFX white. It was too translucent for my taste.
So I bought Wolfe white because of all the recommendations...it was ok (a slight improvement over DFX), but I still didn't like the coverage or how it applied. It seemed too thin and somewhat chalky...if I added water, it would be runny - there didn't seem to be middle ground.
Then I bought a 90 gram Tag white...pretty similar to Wolfe, but it *seemed* to apply better (a good possibility it might've just been increased skill vs. the experience of a complete newbie). A year later and my Tag white is unusable. It gloops and clumps instantly...in temperate, non-humid weather.
So I was considering ordering Cameleon to see if that would work better.
And I still haven't found a white that applies as smoothly or as opaquely as on tutorials I've seen on Youtube (e.g. Lisa Joy Young and Arjhay...both so good!)
Any thoughts on a solid white option for good linework?

Re: Is Wolfe really Diamond FX?
i'm no expert, just passing on what i've read here on the forum.
many people say they have had trouble of one kind or another with all the brands of face paint, and not just the white colors. they suspect some changes in the formulas or amounts of each ingredient, though there is no official word.
the biggest problem mentioned is softness or gloopiness. another is sheerness as you mentioned, or cracking.
wolfe white seems to have changed in consistency over the past years. people refer to "old" vs "new". in this case, "old" wolfe white listed beeswax as an ingredient, but "new" wolfe white lists paraffin.
for the sheerness problem, people usually recommend applying more than one thin layer, and letting the first layer dry mostly, before applying the second (or third). if you use one thick layer, the paint is more likely to crack.
i use wolfe white and it can get thin when water is added, so i have to play around to get the sweet spot in coverage.
finally, good brushes can make or break linework. i can make wolfe white look pretty bad with my old cheap brushes. and i can make snazaroo look pretty decent with my better brushes
and i've seen some less than stellar linework in some of the popular youtube videos. we're all human.

Re: Is Wolfe really Diamond FX?
For the longest time I thought it was me. I'm sure that there's an element of me still trying to find the "sweet spot" consistency, but my journey in finding a good white has been pretty bumpy.
I'm so worried about my white linework that I'm extra nervous when I start applying it and screw it up even more.
I guess I'll give Cameleon a shot...couldn't hurt. What I've been trying to avoid is consistently having to go over white linework to make it stand out, but it looks like I might have to consider that as an option as well.
Thank you for the response!
