Give it to me...Hard
Hello everyone,
It's been a few days since some of you gave me advice on making tiger stripes . However, I've only been able to practice twice . I did a tiger last night and it came out ok, but I have a few issues with the outcome and they are as follows:
1. The lines are too thick and wet looking
2. The muzzle looks crazy
3. The eye area doesn't have a finished look
Lastly, I would love for you all to critique it, but I couldn't figure out how to attached the picture to this message...HELP!

Re: Give it to me...Hard
Thanks Michelle! Is there also a way to attach the actual "picture" to the message?
If you get some time...can you let me know what you think about the tiger?

Hi Toya,
To host an image, you click on the little icon of the computer screen and disk (7th from the left right above the quick reply box).
Regarding the tiger, I'm relatively new, so take this all with a grain of salt...
The blending of the yellow/orange looks great, but is a bit strange ending with the hard line on the forehead.
The lines below the eyes are nicely pointing toward the focal point (between the eyes), so it would be great of the lines on the forehead would be pointing towards the same point, instead of away.
With the black lines delineating the eyes and the muzzle, try to have a thin to thick to thin line.
I'm still working on my tiger but hope this helps

Suzy...thanks for posting the picture and the link:)
Michele...I had no idea what I was doing with the blending! LOL! I read a few post on here and tried it out! I'm glad you like it:D I will definitely take your advice on the forehead markings, continue to practice strips and work on that crazy looking muzzle. Thanks for your input...I needed it.

Re: Give it to me...Hard
I have had trouble trying to load pics too.if it worked here is my first tiger -I watched a totorial sp? on facepaitingtips.com then sketched out where the lines go.still practicing but alot has to do with the angle and presure of the brush.I kind of liked the brick lay of the forehead lines to have your own style but maybe have the bottom one pointing towards the mid noes ,and do thin , thick, thin lines. ok can not get my pic up
Re: Give it to me...Hard
I think you did a fantastic job for just beginning tigers! If I were you, I'd try a smaller brush. It looks like your using maybe an 8--try a 6 or 4 round. I use a 6 on my tgers, and roll the brush while doing the stripes. The muzzle looks good, but big lines..A smaller brush will help. It also looks like your just painting the lines. Try pulling and flicking the ends around--then you get a prettier thin end line. Unlike some others, I like to put whiskers on my tigers. Get the thinnest liner you can find, and use white. Just start at the dots on the muzzle, and pull and flick outward--it's cute. Practice makes perfect! You're doing great!
Re: Give it to me...Hard
Ditto to everything Darlene said, I think it looks great for just starting out! I can tell you my first tigers didn't look that good! For the stripes on the forehead, try angling them all towards a focal point, like the tiger face I posted in the other thread. To get ideas with how to paint the stripes you can use google images for references on tiger face painting or you can check out this thread:

This one is kinda old, but there is a wide variety of differtn tiger stripes on there you can see. Good luck!

Re: Give it to me...Hard
google the images for a real tiger and look at the muzzle closely... the dots go in little lines from the outside edges to the inside, from big to little... that may help you give some purpose to all the markings on your muzzles.
You can also decide if you want to take some inspiration from the real thing on your stripe placement... you don't have to, but it may give you some ideas

Re: Give it to me...Hard
Hey I am also Fairly new. My FIrst Tiger looked Horriable. Its one here somewhere. Way to many lines and just to much. I agree with a lot of what ppl said. I like the eyes but try going thin to thick and see how u like it. I hated my muzzle on tigers until recently. I dont know hoe to explain how I do it now but its my profile pic. I know some people do the lines on the forehead in almost and upside down v and that works but you need the lines on the cheek to go to the same focal point and the cheek and the forehead see to be going 2 different directions. I love it though. That is a great job for a first tiger.
Re: Give it to me...Hard
Thanks again everyone!!! Once I break out the paint this evening...I'm going to incorporate what you all have suggested in my tiger design. I will tell you that I am having a very difficult time with the thin to thick lines, but l'm going to practice until I get it right:)

And that is the only way any of us got where we are! This stuff doesn't just come over night, we all struggle with stuff too, but practice is the key to everything. Good luck! Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Re: Give it to me...Hard
First of all, good start!!
1. The lines are too thick and wet looking
I think they are right about using a 6 or 4 brush, also you might try making the stripes longer and curved (instead of straight and fat) ...more like the ones on the bottom (cheek) on the forehead but even longer and more curved with more of the thin points on both ends of the stripes.
2. The muzzle looks crazy
The lines are a bit thick and not varied in thickness. They are a bit wide (going far out away from the mouth if that makes sense) You can try the same kind of "C" shape with thicker in the middle going to thin by the nose and mouth or you can do a series of "L" kind of shapes on top of one another from nose to mouth. It would be an L on the Left and backwards on the right but the corner would be round. I hope that makes sense. Perry is right about the dots in the muzzle too. They are actually lined up.
3. The eye area doesn't have a finished look
Again, I would say more varied thickness on the lines that are outlining the eye areas. Optionally, you could like the eye lids. Also, I noticed the lines on the tops of the eyes don't meet. I don't know if that is making it look unfinished to you.
You might want to blend out the color on the forehead too so there isn't a distinct line of orange. You did do a great job of blending yellow and orange and getting the white very white!

Re: Give it to me...Hard
One thing I do like about tigers is that just about everyone has a different take on them.
People have already said what I had in mind. But an idea for the mouth... it looks like the top lip was painted black, you could try keeping that part white as well and extending the line all the way down, and making the little triangle towards the bottom of the top lip.
Keep at it! You're doing great.

Re: Give it to me...Hard
Toya,
Your tiger is a great start!
You did a wonderful job of blending!
Instead of practicing the whole tiger, practice the lines/stripes over & over on your arm. You can even practice just muzzles there.
I like to start my stripes really thin by only paint with the tip of the brush. Then press harder & then press lighter again. I also like to twist the brush as I paint(this makes really cool uneven lines).
Here's an example(I did these w/ a Mark Reid #1 round brush from Metina's shop).
Try to point all lines between the eyebrows of the face. This will give your design more depth. Point the tips of the muzzle there also.

Re: Give it to me...Hard
Suggest you use white for arm practise, a little practise whilst sitting watching TV(when the ads are on) is great. If you wash it off several times dont forget to moisturise your arm as painting and wiping off really dries your skin out. Doing that has improved my lines no end. Sorry no pics as my camera needs new battery. I can see a big improvement on the tiger in my gallery that I was so proud of then.

I actually love your tiger... Yes the lines could be a bit more varied but that is a great starter. I hope my first tiger is that good.

Thanks for all your compliments and suggestions. It's means a lot to have soooooo many supportive people in my corner:D
The past few days have been very hectic for me. Hopefully I'll be able to post a new and improved version of my tiger this evening.

I think it looks really good. The blending and stripes are gorgeous. I'm so not there yet. I do think it might look a little more cohesive if there was some white going down the nose. Great work!

Re: Give it to me...Hard
Great job! The lines flow much more nicely now, and Your blending is gorgeous! I like the idea of adding dots, but perhaps make smaller clusters? Just a suggestion! Also, if you like the dots, have you considered adding a few small white dots on top of the stripes themselves? I like doing that for my tigers, it adds dimension and makes them pop.
Here's what I mean:
