Tamara, you had questions about the metallic palette. I got the Temptu palette from Jacana in the swap forum. I am not completely thrilled yet as the first painting I did stayed so tacky for awhile, even after setting with the talcum powder, and the powder took away the metallic sheen. I might have to look for something else to set the metallics with. Part of the design stuck to the inner sleeve of my pajamas and the design was messed up in the morning. I did it about 4 hours before bed (at least). As that stands, I could not charge for any paintings with those paints until I figure out how to stop that. I know I should have powdered it before bed, but...
Anyway, we don't have an A.C. Moore, so until I find something better for transfers I will use my watercolor pencils and freehand.
Your brand of paints are much brighter than the Temptu palette I bought, but the metallic palette is very bright, even with the problems I am having. I don't know how much the BIC activator is, but once I finally found a drug store that has 99% alcohol, it is only $1.59 for 16 ounces.

Tamera, it is so cool that you posted theses pictures as that I was considering ordering the same kit...but was uncertain of it. I too have had some teenagers that would like their work to last longer so, was thinking about it. I buy so much! LOL! Anyway, I agree about the symmetry... part of getting something hand painted is to have the artist's special touch! They look amazing to me!

CreateFaces wrote:Nice work! I get a lot of boys who want an alternative to glitter tattoos and are disappointed that their design painted with regular face paint won't last.
You could use mica (black for instance makes neat tribal) - not glitter, but done the same way and can last as long.

Re: Soooo Loving my new Tattoo Paints.....More New Pics
I am really liking this palette alot....if you haven't already guessed that by now. LOL
Thanks for the compliments everyone I appreciate your comments.
Angel and I have alrady started our FABAIC Funds and compiled a list of what we want to buy. I'm not ordering anythingggggggggggggggggg until then...well at least i'm gonna try not to.
I do know a 2nd tattoo palette is definitely on the list.
To start out I am gonna select 10 really cool/funky not readily seen designs to catch the eye and stick with those for PPF/or parties and slowly incorporate more.

Changing, can I ask you what kind of brushes you are using with your paints? I pilfered some from my fp, of course I don't use them again for fp, but which ones do you find work the best? I just bought a big pack of royal majestic teeny tiny detail brushes and I am going to try those (fingers crossed). I have been admiring your work with your tatt paints. I think yours work a little differently than mine, as I have to put the alcohol into the paint and let it soften, and I think you dip your brush in the activator and then into the paint.

I use a liner brush, a 0 or 1 round, and a teeny tiny angled shader brush that has very short bristles. I like the anglesd shader because I can get into tight spots with it and not mess up the outline, If I lay the brush on its side I can get a broader stroke and do the thick to thin, and if i use it longer side down with the point I can line with it as well.
If I can remember I will post a pic...because it is really tiny

Thanks, the ones I just got are like 10/00 amd 20/00 amd the20/00 I tried out today seemed to do really well for me. I was worried they would be too soft, but the are fine.

Hello,
Just a quick question...Do you need to use the BIC activator and the alcohol or just one or the other.
I've had some children cry when their moms make them take a bath after I've painted their arm, it would be a nice thing to offer.

I know for the Temptu you have to use 99% alcohol and if you can't find a local supplier, it's pretty pricey to buy online because it can't be shipped by air. I find it at a local pharmacy for $1.59 for 16 oz. For the palette that Changing has, which is the BIC , you have to use the activator that you can only get from the company. The colors in that seem better than mine although Temptu does have different palettes available. Temptu also has some liquid paints you can buy. They evaporate very quickly as they have a 99% alcohol base, but as they evaporate you can put a drop of alcohol back in them to reactivate. you have to work very quickly and there is really no blending time. I have not nearly learned what I want to about them, there is a way bigger learning curve than fp and I don't think they would be very good at least for me for lines that you want to move fast, unless you want to do something very quick and basic.

You do not need to use BIC Activator, 99% alcohol works.
Kryolan which makes Body Illustrator Color has palattes and individual godets, I find there are colors which folk don't even know about. Temptu is not the only other brand there are many brands of alcohol activated makeup on the market.
If your looking for markers - try Reel Creations.

Thanks for the info about the brushes, Changing. This is what I did today, and I am getting much better at freeehanding these things, I think anyway.
I did use the angled brushes on the larger areas and I could get into the small spaces easily.

When you are done do you wash the brushes in the alcohol?
Re: Soooo Loving my new Tattoo Paints.....More New Pics
I think I may have an upcoming opportunity to use these. I got a call form a woman wanted to do a graduation party and was looking for glitter tats and FP but wanted to know If I had any FP designs geared for older kids. I told her yes we have designs that are age appropriate for all ages, anddddddd we just added a new offering to our line up of services, semi permanent tattooing. Well that piques her interest. I explained what they were, and she thinks they will go over big.
The event is June 11th so I still have time to practice more. I figure on offering 5 boy designs and 5 girl designs to choose from to start.
So now I am just waiting to hear back with the number of guests so we can determine how much time will be needed.

Re: Soooo Loving my new Tattoo Paints.....More New Pics
So my kit arrived and I've had a bit of a play. I did a henna workshop with some disadvantaged kids yesterday so I took them along and used them to colour in the henna. I took a few brushes but I struggled a bit with washing the brushes between colours and how to have the Activator - I had a small watercolour pallet with like 10 grooves and had a few drops of of the Activator in each o I kind of used one to wash the brush and one with clean activator to drop on the pallet. I was wondering what your procedure was to actually use them quickly/effectively?
Re: Soooo Loving my new Tattoo Paints.....More New Pics
can I ask if it takes longer then our regular painting?
The reason I ask is that when we paint if we make a mistake ( not that we ever do ... hehe ) we can just wipe it off.... but when painting with this ink it would seem that is not an option.... so I can see myself slooowing down so as not to make a mistake...
I'm thinking it would work as a party offering for teenagers and the like... but perhaps not so much in a pay per face festival type of event?
Sorry changing... I know you've copped HEAPS of questions about this.

Once you get past your learning curve it take no longer to use BIC alcohol activated makeup than pan cake makeup.
What most fail to do when learning is wet the cakes enough.
You want stiffer brushes than for cake makeup. Rinse your brushes well in the 99% or BIC Activator then on occasion like any brush a brush treatment to preserve the bristle can't hurt.
I really like the gold and silver BIC for extra pizazz!

I haven't been on the forum for like a week, but I just saw the question about cleaning up a mistake and the brushes. I just really make sure I have a brush for each color and a little cup of alcohol and rags or paper towels ready to wipe them on. Q-tips, especially the ones with the pointy ends work great for taking out the little mistakes after dipping them in alcohol. They're not hard to work with, but I really don't think they are great for ppf or long lines if you are working alone.

What about Bellys. I have only done a few bellys but most of the moms seem to want it to last for a few days for sure. Could I use these paints?
