Temporary tattoo paint
Is anyone familiar with any different brands of paint to do these? I am only aware of temptu, but was curious if there are anymore lurking out there.

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
Shannon, are they a lot different to use than face paint? Can you blend them, paint on top of another color with good coverage? I'm intrigued by them, but skeptical of the application process. Oh and great link by the way. I've never heard of the line before, but I'm thinking I might try out the airbrush stuff now. I already have the airbrush system, just don't have any paints.
Re: Temporary tattoo paint
I use mehandi.com's Harquus Platinum black (I think this is still temptu brand, but made for them exclusively....but I could be mistaken) when I do henna gigs where they may want neck designs or are bikers/want 'black henna', etc. I have many different colors of temptu and they are what I use for my brides to highlight the henna.
It can be put on thicker or thinner. If you want heavier coverage, you let some of the alcohol evaporate off and let it get thicker. I've almost never used it as just a color, but I will do one tonight or tomorrow to let you see the results. The black is pretty great coverage...pretty much dip, paint, very little to go over twice.

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
I know that Kryolan also has a pallette called Body Illustrator that is alcohol activated. It's pretty inexpensive too. I haven't used it, so I can't say anything for how it works, but it's another line to investigate.
Re: Temporary tattoo paint
The inks are activated with 99% alcohol. They aren't really suitable for faces IMO.. the alcohol is pretty strong!
Think of them as INKS - that's how they work. Applied with a brush or airbrush.
I use the flesh tones for tattoo cover-up, it works excellently. And yes you can layer the colours - to cover tattoos I use a couple of shades to neutralize the tattoo colours.
You control the consistency with the amount of alcohol you add - thin and transparent or thicker and opaque.
I do fake "henna" with the inks, fake "tattoos", etc. I often do freehand glitter tattoos using them - draw the design in the inks then apply the glitter.

Ooooh... this is great information! Thanks for the details on the application Shannon. I'm so happy to know that you can control the consistency. I think I am defiantly going to have to try them out.
Re: Temporary tattoo paint
haven't used the Kryolan inks but I've been meaning to get my hands on them. they do carry an activator that you can use in place of 99% alcohol, but it's not really the type of thing I'd use on the face.
Re: Temporary tattoo paint
I did some more research and found these two links. The first suggests some well know brands of alcohol activated makeup, and the second is the link to the Stacolor palette that was suggested in the first link. The Stacolor seems to be a great value, but I am curious if anyone has used it and can comment on the quality of the product?

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
Oh and I'm not wanting to use these on the face. Only interested in using them on the body. I was just curious if they apply similar to the way face paints apply.
Re: Temporary tattoo paint
I would agree with Shannon, I don't use the alcohol inks on the face, but I do have the henna colored for my brides that are doing an Indian wedding and then a more christian style wedding and they don't want the henna with the white wedding dress. I have the alcohol based palates, but I usually use the liquid. Here is some of what I dug up. Hope it helps!
This is the liquid black
This is the liquid black as well
Henna paste off and highlighted with temptu - not too thick so it's a highlight and not colored in.
Drew this on my husband in liquid temptu while he is sleeping on the couch.
Baby power over top will make it look like a 'real' tattoo.
I think many others here have experience with various brands....I've just used this one. Hope that was at least a bit useful!

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
Oh I forgot to mention...you asked about blending....I just came up with 'goofy girl' to show you the colors....the black, fushia, blue and green are straight from the bottle, but but pink is from the fushia and white mix. They are pretty durable through alot of sweat and water, but it is on top of the skin so heavy rubbing will make this wear quicker. I've used this on a model who wanted to 'tattoo' over a scar and several 'bad weather' outdoor events where henna would have been difficult.
Re: Temporary tattoo paint
If you want realistic Tattoos, Pheonix inx (sic) looks the most like a real Tattoo. European Body Art ink stays on the longest (The 3/4 body lizard men in my gallery were EBA everywhere but face) to the point where getting it off is really hard on a large area, also really noxious to spray outside.
Temptu, one of the best, and pricieset.
My experience is all of the above work best with an air brush. You CAN brush them on, but I am never wild about the look.

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
Man! You guys are full of great information, I'm really gonna have to think before I make a decision.
Re: Temporary tattoo paint
I just want to say that I really appreciate this thread. I have been looking at temporary tattoo inks and have looked at the Harquus Platinum and it looks pretty intriguing along with the other temp tattoo products at Mehandi.com. Everytime I do a gig whether a party or a PPF I always get asked if I do henna or temp tattoos and I think this would be a great addition for me. I love the look of henna but I am not too keen on really learning such a new skill. It may not look just like henna but if I can paint on the designs I would be satisfied I think with that. I am not interested in airbrushing though.

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
If you email Mehandi.com they do carry the red/brown range that really looks quite 'henna' when darkened. Being a painter and not wanting to now try and master the cone (at least not yet) is understandable but this is a pretty interesting alternative.
Re: Temporary tattoo paint
I do "henna" with the inks... looks very real for a day or so (as long as the inks hold up which varies according to where it is, the person's skin type, etc.)
Reel Creations sells a "henna" kit - three shades of browns (at least they did when I bought mine... I haven't checked lately)

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
Before I discovered that there were temporary tattoo inks, I really did want to learn henna (and I still probably will at some point). My reasoning is not only learning new skills, but also financial and practical. If I can do more than one thing with what I purchase, then I am all for it. If I realize that I have a greater demand for henna, then I will definintely decide then what to do. I have noticed that it is not very expensive, at least I don't think it's as expensive as the paint. The worst thing that can happen is I will get familiar with the designs and placement. Right now I just started a new semester at school and am carrying 14 credits including chemistry with a lab component so my time is really valuable. I should be ordering something though the beginning of Feb. Thank you guys so much for the info and I am sure that I will have more questions.

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
When you use alcohol activated makeups that 99% alcohol use to activate the paint evaporates very rapidly - you're not really painting that alcohol onto your skin at that point. Also as that alcohol evaporates off your cakes all you have left is the makeup ready to reactivate so you use very little makeup making it much more cost effective than you think when you see the small cakes. Do not under estimate the ability and depth of color you can get with KRYOLAN BIC or other such AA makeups.
Re: Temporary tattoo paint
Does anyone have photos to illustrate how the Kryolan BIC looks??? I would be interested in seeing this as I was interested in having somethings geared more to teens and older guys. Temp. tattoos that mimic real ones would go over really well.
Not looking to do real elaborate designs.....I'll leave that to the "real tattoo" artist, but mostly tribals, hearts, crosses, birds, roses, vines etc

I suggest you try some from European Body Art.com. They have both alcohol based inks for temporary tattoos (Endura), and water based inks (Vibe) that can be used for airbrush face painting. I have only used the TAT inks so far, and find that my guns do not clog, and the colors are great. In my latest test for wear, I found the red to last about 4 days, which is really rather short for a TAT, but they have a product called ProEndura that is supposed to make the TATs last up to 7 days. I'll be trying that out before much longer, as I would prefer the tats last 7-10 days.
If you're looking at TAT inks, also check out Tatstore.com, TCPGlobal.com (Paasche paints available here), and even OliveBranchSkinCare.com. Just remember that the TAT inks (most are alcohol based) are not for use on the face. I tell my customers that they can go anywhere chin level or below, which works well enough. We've been doing TATs for almost 2 years, so please feel free to email if you have any questions.

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
I realize I am digging up a thead that is a few weeks old, but I should have my inks coming in the mail either today or tomorrow. I ordered the Temptu inked palette from Mehandi.com and some of the harquus platinum for lining and black tats.
I can see a few bumps in my road though. I forgot to order the 99% alcohol when I ordered my paints and the highest percent I have been able to find around here is 91%. Does anyone know if that will work? or have an idea what places might sell this on a local level?
I already have several people that want me to give them temporary tats when I get my supplies. I have been all over the internet trying to find some sort of idea of exactly how to use these inks. The best info I found was on Youtube but the guy from Temptu was making a bruise and a cut from a different kit. At least I got sort of an idea how to activate the inks and such.
Also, I've been looking at how to make a template or transfer for more complicated, intricate designs. I see how the pros do it for real tattooing and it would probably work but there has to be a better way to do this for these temp designs without buying out the store.
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
Got my inks today. Good news is they do seem to work with the 91% alcohol. I was just messing with them and playing with the consistency. This was right out of the box without thinking or planning, I know I need practice with these.
