Re: Temporary tattoo paint
I thought about that and was going to do that for lighter colors, but the paint is so darn expensive and the transfer pens were pretty cheap, so I will use those for now. I will also use them for glitter tattoos without stensils or with stensils that aren't tacky to get better lines than purely freehand.

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
Do you mean you trace the stencils that aren't tacky with the pen, then apply to the skin to fill in with glue/glitter?

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
Where do I get the tattoo pens and transfer paper from??? I think that would be much better than what I am doing now. I would like to use this with some more details designs.
Thanks for the tip especially about using them for free hand glitter tats.

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
I got my transfer pens from here:
http://www.wemakefaces.com/page38.html
I hope it is Ok to put the link here. Metina does not sell them. If it is not OK, I do not mind it being deleted. I don't use transfer paper, I just use tracing paper and trace the pattern out, usually what I have printed from the internet and then trace it onto the tracing paper with the transfer pen. You can use just printer paper too but it is harder to form to the skin and harder to see through to trace your pattern. Honestly, the pen looks just like what the doctors use to mark where they will cut you for surgery. I am a medical assistant and have seen these pens at doctor's offices. After you have the design on the tracing paper you just cut out sort of close to the lines, since you still need them. Then you clean the skin with alcohol and since you don't need much alcohol with these pens or the ink will blur (I found this out quick) you can just lay your transfer over the area you cleaned with your alcohol and make sure the entire transfer is held down for maybe about 30 seconds or so. I don't really have it timed yet. I don't hold it long because I like the lines light but still there enough to see them.
I haven't really tried them with the glitter tattoos yet but I know they will work the same way. Just lay out the transfer the same way and then fill it in with the body glue and then your glitter. I have the next 2 days off of work and I plan on doing some practicing.

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
Changing, I am seriously rethinking these transfer pens. I am going to research some more options. I saw on one website something called hectographic pencils. The problem I am having is the purple from the pens is running into the lighter colors of the paint. I guess the alcohol is activating the purple ink from the pen. I don't like it but since I ordered 3 pens I am going to have to work around it for awhile. I did just paint this and I am pretty proud of it because it is kind of detailed. I had to go back with the pen and freehand some of the inner part of the transfer on my skin because it didnt come out. There has to be a better way. Maybe using the paint for the transfer like was mentioned earlier in a post is better. I just don't want to use that much paint. Anyway, here is what I did. I had to paint my thigh (sorry).
Well, I will post it when I can, I just wanted to let you know about the pens. There must be a problem again with posting pictures because it is doing what it did before when there was a problem. It just says it can't display the website when I click on the host the picture button.

Ok, I can upload the picture now.
It does look a little blurry. Here is another angle.
I made a big thigh look even bigger, but oh well.

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
That looks really good. I am even more excited about my tattoo paints. I was able to get the "Tattoo Sourcebook" from the last chance bin at my B&N for $9.98 sooooo loving that I was able to get a 2nd tattoo book as well. So I really need to get those pens now and the tracing paper.
I have done several other freehand designs with my paints and really have worked out the kinks as far as how to use them and get the most bang.
I am also gonna use the tracing paper and tattoo pens to do some really awesome glitter tats.... whoo hooo no stencil req'd

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
Oh and I like how easy they come off with vaseline, baby oil, or alcohol wipe
Re: Temporary tattoo paint
My advice, if you will take it, at this point is DON'T GET THE PEN'S. Now that I have had this lion on my leg for 2 days, the purple is bleeding all into it and it does not look good. It does not look really bad, and I could go back over the lines with black paint, but I would not like it for a customer. I bought some watercolor pencils and I am going to try them for making a transfer. I work alot and have school this week but spring break next week and only work one day next week so I am going to do alot of experimenting then.

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
Well perhaps I will hold off on ordering those particular pens, but in the mean time I am gonna go to the Tattoo shop where I got my tats done and see if I can get one of the pens they use. I have never seen those bleed.
Re: Temporary tattoo paint
Has anyone worked with the Temptu Tattoo Metallics palette???
I know you don't see metallics used in traditional tattoo designs, but I painted a design from one of my new tattoo books and I did it all in metallics and it looked really really good, but of course playing around wrestling with the kids and our ticklefest it rubbed off.
If the metallics look decent and are fairly easy to work with, I may consider ordering it.
If you have used them please let me know what you thought of them and if you have pics please post. it would be nice to see what they look like.
Thanks for reading

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
I've used Skin Illustrator and OCC metallics in palette form, I've used Temptu and OCC metallics in airbrush (liquid) form - big diff I find between the metallics and regular is the sticky factor - if you put glitter on the regular inks (within about 10-15 mins of applying) it gets *stuck* - and powder will age the regular inks too. But the metallics won't hold a glitter or powder put on it. I've had no luck with using tissue to make transfers either. But I've applied it after - I just find it needs to be runny more so than the regular ones. Metallics in any form are popular and pretty. I love the Temptu metallic colors - I think they look like jewel tones.

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
I hope the metallics in the Temptu are pretty. I just ordered the one from Jacana here on the Forum (sorry Changing, if you had the same idea, I know you ordered yours from her). If you will, let me know of you get your pen, and what kind it is. The ones I have don't bleed with water, but the alcohol activates it when I apply the paint. My lion tattoo is still in place 2 days later. The colors are still bright and pretty, but it the white has a purplish hue. In truth, it looks kind of cool, if that was the effect I was going for. I am still going to use the pens for small, darker tatts, like more intricate tribals or celtic knots, etc. but larger tatts with lighter colors, no. I had to go back in and freehand the lion's face and inner parts of the design with the pen because you just can't keep the alcohol from evaporating so fast and if you put more on it smears the design. You can't keep it all pressed on at the same time either.
When I get my metallic palette I will post a design with it so you will see what they look like and know if you want to invest in some.

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
Oh please do post when you get them. thanks Flutters.
I am really interested because I have a huge after prom party with about 100 kids coming up. These tattoo designs are gonna go over really big with the teens especially not having to worry about the designs rubbing off on their clothing and being able to last a couple of days.

Re: Temporary tattoo paint
The alcohol based inks can still rub off on clothing that it is in constant contact with (especially if they are drinking - they sweat some alcohol and it softens it) - but it won't just transfer if they accidentally touch
