Ohio River flood Empty Ohio River flood

Post by Jody Rife Mon Mar 14, 2011 2:27 pm

Hi all, My town is right on the Ohio River and with all the drenching rains the Ohio River has been higher than I have ever seen. My daughter and I went to town to take a pic or two. Believe it or not it was about 3 feet higher yesterday. Our main rd is completely covered and you guessed it, my kiddos have been out of school for a few days, they will most likely miss tomorrow too.Ohio River flood 00914

Holy Wow! is that a pavilion underwater in the background??? Wow, I don't know how you do it Jody... I would go crazy living in an area where I get flooded that badly... ever! let alone annually. I get grumpy enough when the yard is all mushy and muddy from the thawing of the snow, I couldn't imagine having to WADE through water.... Hope the water recedes quickly!

Yes that is a pavilion, there is a little picnic area by the river. I am pretty fortunate now because from my house, I can get out on one side but the other is flooded. So at least I'm not trapped. However, when I was little, we used to get trapped in for days. We lived on a hill and the road on both sides would flood. Razz It's all ugly now but it is very pretty to live close to the river most of the time. I especially love to drive by the river in the mornings. It is so pretty to see the morning sun reflecting.

Wow! I'm glad it's going down. I haven't heard much about this. I've been paying attention to the earthquake /tsunami/meltdown going on in Japan(my heart is just breaking).

I know it is so sad, it is so hard to imagine. There was a woman from Japan on the news this morning that couldn't find her six family members. Just heartbreaking.

Ditto, I can't even imagine what those people must be going through, their whole country is just falling apart around them and it's so small in the first place! I'd hate to be in their shoes.
