Cry me a river
Is it bad that on a friday night I just want to sit back and practice tear drops, I love them and hate them.
Re: Cry me a river
They're like the Japanese game Go. A simple shape that takes a lifetime to master.

Re: Cry me a river
PS... try doing your teardrops with a filbert brush on it's side (if you normally use a round brush). TOTALLY CHANGED MY LIFE.
Re: Cry me a river
Tear drops, oh yes. I do best with the "drag and drop" method personally, although the person who initially trained me said that was not the best way to do them.
I haven't tried roses yet, so that is still on my "to do" list!! Good job, Janna!

On another thread,
a new Forum member asked if you need to be a realistic artist in order to be a face painter.
I said, "No".
I am a classically trained portrait artist and
I went to college for illustration.
Shannon Fennell reiterated what I said that (paraphrasing here...) "No, you do not have to be an artist to be a face painter. If you CAN draw, you can take it to a whole other level." (Please forgive me if I misquoted you, Shannon, I am doing this from memory).
I find that my work went to a whole other level when I learned to do teardrops. The teardrops, swirls, starbursts, twirls were my new "language". I decided to master teardrops first.
From thick to thin.
From thin to thick.
From left to right.
From right to left.
From large to small.
From small to big.
I still haven't mastered teardrops.
I think my teardrops are passable.
This is a lifetime of learning for me.
Keep crying that river of teardrops.
I will be teardropping, too!
Off to play "Brush Roulette".
That is where I close my eyes and grab a brush and attempt to do a teardrop with whatever brush I pick.
Note to self: 1" flat brushes make great four inch long, one and a half inch wide teardrops. This does not look good on a four year olds' face.

Re: Cry me a river
some times mine are good, sometimes they are bad!
love that we are all home on Friday night practicing different things! Perhaps you could use movies rented or Netflix subscriptions as a tax write off?!
