word.
I know first hand that one of the reasons they don't bother with trying to track down the craft paint painters is because of the age old "you get what you paid for" mentality. I've spoken to a couple of moms about just this and that is the common answer between the two of them "well, it was only a dollar...I should've known better". Unfortunately, this turns many parents off of face painting...not only the cheap kind. On the flip side of it, it draws quite a bit of notice when they see different (aka professional) supplies, so many are willing to give it another go.
As far as allergic reactions go, I've only had a complaint about the tightening of DXF and the staining of Snaz dark green. I personally can't wear DFX on my face...it's not a pretty sight when my eyes start to itch and water. Oddly enough, I painted my whole face with TAG last night to see if the reation would be similar and not only did it not bother my face, it didn't tighten up as much as DFX normally does. I wore the make up for over2 hours just to be sure there wasn't any latent reaction and I got nothing. I may have to sell off all of my DFX now that I have a beeswax based makeup that I can actually wear. Aside from TAG and DFX, I use primarily Paradise and I've never had a problem that I've been informed of. I don't use Snaz for anything but practice now because 1) the vibrancy fades too quickly for my taste and 2) I've had too many mother's comment about being able to get the same paints in the craft stores...I don't want that association.
Re: Paradise facepaints???
I know that I personally cannot use the Paradise Yellow - it makes my skin tingle and itch in a bad way. I switched to Kryolan Bright Yellow #509 and haven't had a problem yet.
Re: Paradise facepaints???
Deanna - thanks for that recommendation! Kryolan blends with Paradise nicely and I'm not keen on the Paradise yellow .... it's fine as a base or when blending it with another colour but hopeless as a solid colour in a design . . . Kryolan #509 here I come!

Re: Paradise facepaints???
I had to paint my daughters and my own face today trying out a football design for a client.... when I was painting my daughter she said her eyes felt funny. I saidit was probably because she was facing the glare from the window, and then I painted myself. I was ok until I tried to take it off with soap and a warm washer. Both eyes were red and sore... they still are now.
The only thing I can think of is either it was because I had to put white and red right over the eyes... usualy it would be black that close to the eyes....
or it may have been that I used a Merhon white pencil to mark out the lines.... or it may have been that somehow through use my paints ave been contaminated.
I'm not sure but I'm determined to get to the bottom of it.

Re: Paradise facepaints???
I think the red around the eyes is the most likely culprit - the red pigment (and some of the orange/yellow pigments) are very irritating to eyes....

Re: Paradise facepaints???
I know this is an old thread but I was researching it because i want to be prepared and I had a little rash from some store bought stuff before.
I just looked at the tiny paper that comes with the Paradise paints and it says
Warnings: Do not use red, yellow, or orange in the area of the eye or blue or green on the lips. May cause irritation.
I am sure this is true of all brands to some extent.

Re: Paradise facepaints???
All face paints, as per FDA in the USA are to be listed as not to use red around the eyes. Most brands to in the yellows and reds and the same pigment that is in red. Hence Paradise lists those colors too.
Mehron's Paradise is among the most safe face painting makeup on the market today. Regulated in a lab with higher standards than any made in Asia brand.

Re: Paradise facepaints???
OK, so that little paper is just standard cover the heiney mandatory warnings. Good to know. We have been very happy with what we have tried so far and have not had any adverse reactions with any color - even at the eye area.

Re: Paradise facepaints???
I've had two incidents with skin reaction, both were painted with diamondfx white and tag metallics, one did not mention that she was allergic to mostly all makeup products...it literally caused a raised reaction that lasted over a week...it was a great life lesson to ask about sensitivities (metal allergies, laundry products, makeup included) and posting a disclaimer, truth is, everyone's skin is different, I break out from liquid dish soap and most bar soap (Ivory is the worst for me) the first question I ask is if they have ever been painted before, followed up by sensitivities.
