I've been asked to do dancers for a parade. will Facepaints be OK? HELP!
Hello wise and experienced painters out there. I hope that you can give me some advise. I have plenty experience painting kiddies at parties but have been asked if I will do the kids at a local dance school who have been asked to be in the official Chinese new year parade here. I'm excited but worried!
My question is will my standard water based face paints be OK? i use mostly Tag, FX, Mehron- but just got a delivery of Magic cake that I was going try out over the summer during the sweaty season!) Or will I need to be looking at "proper" make up?!
I'm not a make up artist I'm a face painter so I am worried about doing a bunch of animal designs with make up i am not familiar with! I had a try a few years back using face pain with the Ben Nye setting spray and i didn't have too much trouble But that was just a Gaga style lightening bolt.
Looking forward to some advise! Thanks

Re: I've been asked to do dancers for a parade. will Facepaints be OK? HELP!
probably depends on how much face painting they will have on, how long they will have it on, and how active they will be.
will it be full face, as well as arms or legs, and part of the body? are they likely to sweat? will they have the paint on a long time and is it likely to be smudged or rubbed off?
if so, you could consider using your magicakes, barrier sprays, starblend powders, or alcohol based water proof face paint like proaiir and dips.
looks like you have about a week before the event? do you have time to practice with any of these types of supplies?

Re: I've been asked to do dancers for a parade. will Facepaints be OK? HELP!
Thank jlirie! It will just be the face, mostly eyes. So i think i will be using the magicakes and liquiset ( if i can get it locally- stock is so spotty here)
I hadnt considered dips before. They look great! Another item to add to my kit! I dont think i'll have time to get it delivered to me though
Have you had much experience with the magicakes and ben nye liquiset? Also any experience with liquiset used with the non powder facepaints? Any advise or tips and tricks? Thanks in asvance!

Oh and yes i have the morning to paint them and parade starts at 5pm. I assume the girls will sweat as they will be dancing in the parade. But hopefully they wont be dripping! Difficult to know how sweaty the weather will be too as it has been a bit crazy. I'm actually praying for cold weather!

Dear tigerlily:
You do not mention the region you are painting in... is it humid, or dry heat? What part of the country do you live in?
Also, if you live near a fellow facepaintforum member, they may be able to help you with paint you can obtain locally.
How many dancers do you have to paint?
I have painted full bodies with TAG, Wolfe, Paradise, Starblends, etc., in the Florida Keys during heat, humidity, precipitation, sweat, and the paint lasted with the application of Green Marble SeLr as a prep, and then a sealant coating after the face and body paint was applied. I would use Blue Marble SeLr on the face, instead of the Green.

Hi Fesspenter, I was so busy in the lead up to the parade I didn't have time to check back! Thanks for your feedback though and I will look into the sealers you mention for next time. The parade was in Hong Kong and luckily it was not very humid that day.
I thought I would give an update and share what I did in case anyone finds themselves asking the same questions.
I tested my paints (TAG, FAB, Paradise FX, Magicake) with liquiset and final seal from Ben Nye as this was all I could get locally.
I also tested some Lumiere powder that I could get from the store (gorgeous! I used the gold over a Kryolan concealer base for the lions)
I did a water spray test and the Magicake with liquiset was the one that did not run.
I sponged and did line work. The liquiset did get a little sticky for sponging though as we worked through the 50 girls!
It all seemed to stay put though!
One thing to note if anyone is looking at using liquiset and final seal, using them together left the paint flaky and it came off really easily so choose only one or the other. THANKS for you help!

don't matter if you aren't a make up artist, they hired you for a reason - which means they want what you do.
If they are dancing, then get some green marble sler to set everything, and you are off to the races!
