What do you mean by "water based paint"? Like craft paint?

Hey there Maggie, ok fingernails are something I know. I'm a qualified nail tech and have found the best way to photograph nails is usually by placing one hand over the top of the other on a diagonal so that all fingernails can be seen the fingers of the top hand sit across the bottom fingers on a diagonal (the thumb on the bottom hand is usually hidden) then you can get a fairly close up shot with heaps of detail, black is the best background and usually natural light as flashes are a bit to reflective on the gloss polish and takes away from the design. Hope I haven't confused you, my hubbys gone to bed but let me know if you need a pic and I'll get him to take one tomorrow and will post. Have fun, love yuor cute nails

Thank you guys for all the tips!

Thanks Belle, I'll try that next time.

Gina, it is water base acrylic paint, I use a coat of regular nail polish before adding any design.

like I said the pictures were taken so long ago and I took them with my old camera at the gym where I used to work and most of the models are 3 and 4 yr olds, very hard to shoot those LOL

I love the nail art idea, Maggie, and yours look great. Honestly, I have thought about it but I thought if you didn't have a nail tech license, you couldn't do it, kind of like some of the hair art some people were doing and found out you can't do it without a license. I think I'll take a second look into this. Thank you.

Maggie, sorry i got side tracked.... I know what you're asking now!

Yes, these photos would be fine for your website till you get some new ones. I agree with a black background, just throw any piece of black fabric in your kit! I would try to take two "styles" of pics, the first is the hand over hand that someone already metioned. Try to keep the "framing" of the hand the same so you can create continuity in a slideshow for your website. Also, to avoid the backlash of too much strobe (flash), stand back further and zoom in tighter. I would take the second "style" of photo maybe just one finger nail or a peace sign would be sooooooo fun, and again, try to take every photo with the same settings and the same perspective.

I know the corsettes aren't relative to face painting but you can see how the framing perspective is the same and visually I think it could work for nails.....

Thanks Lauri, I will try that! For now the ones I have will have to do until I paint some nails.
I was thinking a good way to get 2 pictures out of one person I would do a different design on each hand, Gosh why can't we have 2 heads, I would have more pictures in my gallery lol!

I would suggest not doing the peace sign thing. If the fingernails are visable then it is turned the wrong way and has a very different meaning than "peace."

Sophie is on the ball......Lauri, found this for ya.

"In the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, the V sign (given with back the of the hand towards the recipient) serves a similar purpose (primarily "**** off"), whilst "the bird" is more often used for "up yours"

Hope this doesn't offend anyone.

Very Happy

SOOOOOOOO GLAD IT'S NOT something feminist, racist, sexist, boy-ist, girl-ist, you-ist, me-ist, religion-ist and if you deserve the finger-ist,,, oops on all of the -ists, unless you are the "I have never been given the finger-ist, cause I'm oblivious" - ??

If you're like me and old enough to know what "the finger" is,.......,.shut up-and be grateful that you've not seen it - it's old school!!!

Hi Maggie,

I was thinking of doing a similar thing, but my daughter would be doing the nail art. Could you give me an idea of what you nail art kit has in it?

Thanks!!
